A wee boom! 💥 for this long overdue #WestrayBirding isle tick! Little Bunting falla at last. @papaybirder.bsky.social must’ve been fed up of me whanging on about finding what must surely be a a regular bird on Westray. Just a small bird on a big isle! So majorly chuffed 😝 #PWC2026

#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... the county's first Western Black-eared Wheatear was found on, where else, North Ronaldsay. Bewick's Swan is also a standout rarity here with none recorded since 2014. The Woodlark was one of three found on uninhabited Auskerry in 1912 (1) and 1913 (2). #rarebirds

100% agree re their reluctance to cross large water bodies. Many species don’t and why we have so few records of species like Crested Lark.

None in UK in 95, but one the year after. I'll look in spring for the one that made it over this autumn, wasn't found, and heads north to turn up in Westray 😉😂

It's been a quiet few days #WestrayBirding. A Garden Warbler was new in yday and I found this Yellow-browed Warbler today and can only wonder how long it's gone unnoticed in an isolated and hard to watch clump of willows. The last new YBW was last Saturday and none seen since Monday.

Surely that Nutcracker dam will burst soon and one will make it across the Channel. I don't know what the build up was ahead of the 1998 Kent bird (the last to make it here). Orkney and Shetland have only one record each so I won't hold my breath for an #OrkneyBirding one. #rarebirds

Butterfly Conservation Head of Science Professor Richard Fox said: "This has been one of the hottest, driest summers on record, and the figures certainly suggest that was good news for many of the widespread butterfly species monitored by the Count.

Very pleased to find this 1CY White-rumped Sandpiper at The Ouse, Westray late afternoon. The closest bird to me as I got out of the car and lifting my bins I instantly thought, aye aye. Makes a change from it being the furthest hideaway from you in fading light! #WestrayBirding #PWC2026
