“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...

what's the move here. Layoff the talent that makes these things possible. Then make the cost of entry exorbitantly expensive, for both hardware and software. Then take away the ability actually own any of it. Then funnel what's left into a marketplace that can be offlined or revoked at any time. ok.

Generative Al was purpose-built to grift an economy run by executives and managers who don't actually do any work. Its success has been driven by a remarkable, society-wide ignorance in the management sect, and its continued proliferation is only possible through the media's continued trust and faith in the idea that CEOs are
busy because they're actually doing work.
Yet even a Business Idiot eventually realizes that too much money is being spent, and the first one of these dimwits to cut their token budget will send the rest of them running for the doors.
We should lock them. We should make everybody who obsessed over theoretical ideas about what Al
can or will do ashamed for their intellectual deceit or constant ignorance.

To be clear, this is a victory, which was won by ordinary people putting their lives on the line in the streets of Minneapolis while almost all their elected leaders kept quiet or made only muted criticism.

Hey isn't it weird that every single AI lab is saying that their ultra-powerful flagship AI model is just around the corner, but it isn't ready yet and you can't see it and they don't know when it'll be done? Isn't it strange that everybody is having the same problems?
Meta’s recent challenges mirror stumbles or delays at other top AI companies that are trying to release their next big state-of-the-art models. Some researchers see the pattern as evidence that future advances in AI models could come at a far slower pace than in the past, and at tremendous cost.

“Right now, the progress is quite small across all the labs, all the models,” said Ravid Shwartz-Ziv, an assistant professor and faculty fellow at New York University’s Center for Data Science. GPT-5, one of OpenAI’s next big technological leaps forward, was initially expected around mid-2024, The Wall Street Journal previously reported. In December, The Journal reported that development on the model was running behind schedule.

In February, OpenAI Chief Sam Altman said the model would be released as GPT-4.5 and that GPT-5—the model they hoped would come with bigger technological breakthroughs—was still months away. ChatGPT currently runs on versions of GPT-4o. OpenAI declined to comment on the timing of GPT-5’s release.

Anthropic last year said it was working on a new model called Claude 3.5 Opus, a larger version of the AI models it released last year and has continued to update. That heftier version still hasn’t been released. A spokeswoman says Opus is coming soon.

all modern society is built around preventing anyone from ever feeling uncomfortable for even one second, and unfortunately that small moment of crisis is the place where all innovation happens
