Welcome to Somerville, MA, the town with the lowest ratio of coffee places open after 3pm to [pick your favorite signifier of a walking cliche of a liberal/leftist walkable urbanism loving city] in the US!

Separated by handclaps: Use LLMs to write deterministic code that get called at runtime rather than asking an LLM to do the thing during runtime. Truly hope this is obvious to everyone here, but, just in case it's not...

Why would you let an LLM stream rando html, guided by *a skill* 🙄, when you could use an LLM during dev to define a json schema, send it to the frontend, and have it render in a normal-ass deterministic and thoughtfully created set of frontend components? What I am preaching to the choir what?

Unbelievably refreshing to see in 2026!!! Reminds me of the projects that first made me excited about data viz!

NGL, when I started all of this and I kept seeing `foo`, `bar`, and `baz` in Stack Overflow, I was like, are these special concepts/keywords that I just don't understand? That's was reading Claudespeak feels like to me.

Imagine trying to learn and all you get is, "One thing worth holding: SVG text carries the width in its own lane. So the armed version of this is to..."

This is a duh kind of comment, but I really don't know how people will learn the basics of web dev stuff if they start doing it via agentic dev. And it's honestly already having the knowledge of how things actually work that make it an effective tool.

AI makes it instantaneous to chase every idea, spin up agents for every stray thought, ask the LLM instead of talking to customers, skip marketing in favor of launching the same AI-generated assets as everyone else easier than ever to go fast. hard as always to do it well

Do you have an unneeded cardboard box? A small piece of woolen string? Maybe a dirt? or a used ziploc bag? Donate it to your public radio station and turn that thing you don't need into the stories and music you love and maybe even a tax incentive. Call us today and support your local NPR station

Kind of can't believe that Project Runway did not make the NYT list of top 100 shows of the century. This is the only show that I have watched socially (i.e. made a social event out of watching together) for, gulp, two decades in so many different phases of my life. (Incl last weekend)

The best part about being overly/weirdly interested in other parts of the world is that when you listen to podcasts about those areas, they actually talk about something other than AI.

Is there any intermediate measure that can be taken between verbally advising someone of the perils of hacky workarounds and having them experiencing the pain for themselves? I do not know a third way to effectively teach/impart this lesson.

Everytime I interact in writing/async with another designer (I'm the only one at my workplace), I'm like, "OMG thank you so much for your hyper organized and clear message!!!!" And they are like. "Uh, okay, I just used paragraphs, proper casing, and didn't write it with Claude??"

You probably know this but in case you don't, you are entitled to compensation for this, per EU rules. (Not just hotel, meals, but $ on top of it...it's EU Regulation 261/2004)

This sounds like I'm joking but I'm not: the idea that this much structured data could potentially get flattened into plain text feels like a major loss. (Someone should write something about web preservation vis-a-vis the history of architectural preservation)

The US Web Design System is load-bearing infrastructure for thousands of government websites. It makes it easy for small teams with no resources (i.e. most .gov teams) to make usable, accessible websites that work for everyone. Today, it's as close as it's ever been to being replaced with AI slop.

The converse of this is little process/no process leads to complete chaos. I'd actually love to talk to people who could do both but wound up picking a lane because trying to do both was too exhausting, primarily to learn how they feels about having picked a lane.

Very true. I think it's sometimes just hard to find people/places who know how to make use of the breadth. Or people/places that are excited about the breath where the mandate isn't, okay please spray your fire extinguisher across all of our problems/issues, as far as it can reach!
