Omfg how did Apple manage to brick the search function on Mac so bad, a feature that has largely worked on every computer I've had since I was 5?

Lmao at the pope writing a letter citing and quoting his own work written elsewhere. The Chicago Pope is truly an academic at heart.

Oh the irony! When I was an undergrad at U-M I was in the Residential College, a quirky hippy liberal arts college inside of U-M. And the year before I got there LSA forced the RC to start giving grades after decades of not having them

This is exactly why I think, especially building on the anti-data center and anti-flock politics of the moment, there is significant political potential in "the right to an analog life," that is that all necessities of daily life should be equally available w/o the internet at all

this reads like a Douglas Adams bit. "Naturally these serious men measured their devotion to safety by the number of pages they wrote about it in a big book. The books got longer and longer until eventually no one could lift them." www.reuters.com/business/fin...
The company, which has positioned itself as a safety-first AI lab, devoted roughly 80 pages of the 261-page main body of its prospectus to laying out risk factors, nearly twice the 48 pages it used to describe its business.
For comparison, SpaceX, which owns xAI, dedicated just around 38 of the 277-page main body of its prospectus to risk factors.

Henry Ford rolling some Model Ts off the production line: these cars are going to be so bad, crashes, kids getting run over, horrible smog in cities, we will cut down all the trees for parking lots. It's going to be fucking wild. Give me some money

This is pretty good but unfortunately Critchley has the facts exactly backwards; LLMs are not infinite archives that don't forget. The training is precisely a forgetting that's why the companies are worth a lot more than the Internet archives. plus they have "weight"; like that is their whole thing
