This is something I've been saying for ages re: how centrists treat the left. If left-wing positions aren't popular enough to win elections, then left-wing voters can't lose an election for you. If left-wing voters can tip an election for you, their positions need to be accommodated.

Anthropic banning “abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude in its new usage policies is proof to me that tech companies are going to moderate violence against AI before they ever moderate violence against women and minorities

It's that time of year: lots of people will be sick, and many won't know what sickness it is. It's a good idea to get tested, but even if you don't know what it is, *please* stay home as much as possible, get plenty of rest to help yourself recover, and wear masks if you have to go out while sick!

I really know this isn’t the point, but seeing “covid mask” instead of “n95” or “respirator” or something makes me want to pull my hair out, that we can somehow be this many years into this and people still haven’t learned what a mask is or that it protects from multiple things

"Most people’s understanding of lethal injection—as a humane alternative to more overtly brutal executions of yore—is in stark contrast to the actual barbarism behind the procedure. This misconception is no coincidence: it’s by design." #MsReads via @motherjones.com

Everything you've been told about lethal injection is a lie
Death by drugs is brutal—and designed for political optics. Christa Pike's failed execution pulled back the curtain.

Also is the implication here that we shouldn’t be worried about a potential 1 in 29 people dying from an illness? That’s over 3 percent!

I worked at an arts college where a leader told me their campus community was “naturally progressive” so sexual violence and racism weren’t really problems there (while I provided direct support to students who regularly reported sexual violence and racist incidents to me)

I’d like to see a lot more work on How do we get good jobs + fair working conditions for all, + a lot less on college vs trades. Also, despite this framing of trades as a separate option from college, going to community college IS going to college. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

every time one of my parents call during the work day, I pause what I’m doing and answer because I think someone died. And every time, they just forget that I have a job and are utterly heartbroken that I cannot at that moment, shoot the shit with them.

for higher ed will be catastrophic (not to mention the dystopian environment of federal grants to higher ed, etc) The only recourse in my view is sustained fighting for ed as a public good, alongside the same for social safety net programs We cannot have nice things if we don’t invest in them

1/2 This is a good read. One thing Dem politicians have failed at (because many have bought into right wing anti higher ed propaganda) is messaging the harmfulness of federal/reconcilaition budget cuts to higher ed The downward pressure SNAP and Medicaid cuts put on state budgets to cut funding

Anyway, your problem isn‘t finding the time to take notes. The problem is that taking notes is thinking and thinking has to be done by someone. women have been doing a lot of metacognition that looks like a task when it’s really thinking.

I wish. My partner killed one with their hands in our house, an enormous amount of human blood emerged from the mosquito’s body + dripped onto our kitchen island, + we realized we didn’t know if the blood belonged to one of us or a complete stranger. Since then killing mosquitos feels pretty gross.

If you're trying to propose to people with trans children in their lives that their lives are a worthwhile sacrifice for other Democratic priorities, consider whether you'd be convinced that your children should be sacrificed for the greater good of someone else's family.
