Research has shown that beneath every forest and wood there is a complex underground web of roots, fungi and bacteria helping to connect trees and plants to one another. This subterranean social network, nearly 500 million years old, has become known as the 'Wood Wide Web'. #web #woodwideweb #trees

Today is world photography day. Be sure to thank a photographer - without our images to steal from, AI would have no idea what the world looks like

Today is #WorldPhotographyDay2025 so I took the camera to the local park and lost myself in the tiny details. That's one of the joys of photography - disappearing briefly into a different world. @worldphotographyday.com

I love living in London (mostly). There's lots of iconic places to photograph. So I went out the other day and ... err ... photographed snails at Barking :-) #photography #observingthesmalldetails
A detail of a cluster of snails on a fence post, photographed from below and looking up towards the sky. The snails were on a fence around the new Barking Riverside development on the London/Essex border along the River Thames.

Probably the most ambitious pano I've shot, given each vertical frame is at 170mm (tiny field of view) which required about 40 individual frames to get the correct perspective. For context the older wide angle frame shows how far away I am from this view

www.clickasnap.com/image/12003148 Today I took the train to the end of the line ...
A pylon viewed through raindrops on a train window. The drops of water are in focus but the pylon is thrown out of focus although its distinctive shape remains recognisable. The photograph was taken at Barking Riverside, a new development on the Thames just beyond Barking on the East London/Essex borders. The pylon is evidence of the land's former use - as a power station. Barking Riverside is at the end of the Suffragette Line on the London Overground.

On Sunday cycling in the Fens around Ely, Cambridgeshire. Despite being in the populous southeast of England it seems a strangely empty area. On my cycle ride I noticed evidence of the long gone population - abandoned cottages ... #cyclinginthefens
A low viewpoint of an old cottage against the sky. In the foreground wild flowers grow in what would once have been the garden. The roof of the building sags and tiles look missing along the ridge. The cottage is abandoned but there are still curtains at some of the windows. It is somewhere in the flat Fens around the city of Ely in Cambridgeshire, England

Solitary blossom on an otherwise still bare cherry tree with in the background and out of focus, St Paul's Cathedral. This particular blossom may not survive until the Spring proper but at least it is a harbinger of what is to come.

More signs of Spring in the city! #forestoflondon #treesoflondon #signsofspring
A close-up of snowdrops growing in front of a tree still in its winter appearance. The photograph was made in a small park on the busy Holloway Road in North London. Behind me traffic was heading north and south in a great hurry. In front of me these small flowers had slowly unfurled as the seasons began to change. They have a different rhythm to us.

##BlueskyArtShow #Monochrome #WashingtonState #Photography I love monochrome treatments in photography, especially crisp and clear photos. Digital photography really makes it easy! These are all in Washington.
Cape Disappontment State Park has nice cliffs reaching down to small beaches. Here the cliff at Wakiki Beach(!) harbors a tiny beach. There are rocks which contain many tiny tide pools. At the forefront there is a large driftwood tree, and the gentle waves of the outgoing tide ripple and foam around the trunk.Another beach, this time at Deception Pass State Park. This one has a rocky promontory jutting into the tranquil bay. An artistically twisted pine tree leans toward the water. There is another tree covered promontory in the background, and the beach is lined with pine trees. The overall scene has a light mist diffusing the light.A picture postcard perfect photo of the North Head lighthouse at Cape Disappontment in black and white shows the lighthouse under a lovely clear sky full of little puffy spring time clouds. This view is a distant Seattle skyline photographed from Gasworks Park across Lake Union. You can see a smack dock and street light off to the right, and a brilliant sun making sparkles in the lake surface. There is a speedboat crossing the scene, creating another set of waved on the lake surface, which nonetheless reflects the skyline.
