Day 2 at the 4th International CDR Conference #ICCDR2026 in Milan was a great showcase for the #StateOfCDR community. Included talks on policy sequencing, implementation gaps, accounting, governance, and open data infrastructure. Great to see so much #CDR work in one place 🌍

Recent developments in CDR communication show declining trends. Most newspaper articles follow recommendations for responsible communication of CDR, for example by emphasizing the need to reduce emissions and not framing CDR as an alternative solution to mitigating climate change 6/8

Peer-reviewed perceptions research has increased significantly since The State of CDR 2nd Edition. The focus of that literature has shifted from drivers of attitudes towards CDR with an already existing strong evidence base and more theoretical considerations to less-studied, practical aspects 4/8

Public attitudes towards CDR are strongly driven by concerns about the impacts of CDR on ecosystems and biodiversity, the need for good governance, the expectation of co-benefits, trust in relevant actors, broader values and beliefs and a preference for low costs and financial benefits 3/8

Sometimes #CarbonRemoval can look like a building - the Senedd building in Cardiff Bay. When trees grow they absorb CO₂ & store it in their biomass. If that wood is then used in long-lived products, like buildings, beams or furniture #carbon can remain locked away for decades, even centuries.
