Nobody I worked with killed as many people as Lindsey Graham (or Mitch McConnell or Dick Cheney or George w Bush or Henry Kissinger). This incessant need Democrats have to pay tribute to despicable scumbags js part of the reason people don’t believe them when they say elections are a crisis point.

Clarence Thomas says the 14th Amendment should be read narrowly because it was written for formerly enslaved people. By that logic, the 2nd Amendment was written for muskets, not AR-15s. Funny how that kind of originalism only shows up when it's convenient.

I probably wouldn’t comment but I couldn’t help but notice that the mandatory apology from Tenbarge as part of the settlement was the epitome of burying the lead + turning off comments and quotes. Didn’t come off like an apology she really meant. Bad form.

The idea that this just happened to the Broadview 6 — forcing grand juries to indict by cajoling them in an elevator, vouching to the grand jury, and telling "no" votes to leave if they don't want to indict — is nuts. It's probably happening everywhere. And it means the law as we know it is dead.

Speaking of Bari Weiss, she put a target on the back of the poet and professor Refaat Alareer in Gaza and he was assassinated by the IDF less than two months later. He, his brother, his sister, and four of his nephews were killed in a surgical strike.

If I get killed by Israeli bombs or my family is harmed, I blame Bari Weiss @bariweiss and her likes.
Many maniacal Israeli soldiers already bombing Gaza take these lies and smears seriously and they act upon them.

What's happening to CBS News is what the tech oligarchs call "parallel" strategy. Buy an existing institution, gut it, and convert it into a right-wing zombie version of itself. They are doing this to media, government, education, biotech, defense tech, etc. Some call it the "Network State."

VA AG Jay Jones: "My team is carefully reviewing this unprecedented order and we are evaluating every legal pathway forward to defend the will of the people and protect the integrity of Virginia’s elections."
Attorney General Jay Jones Statement Regarding Supreme Court of Virginia Decision in Redistricting Case

RICHMOND, Va.- Attorney General Jay Jones released the following statement in response to the Virginia Supreme Court decision in Virginia's redistricting case.

"Today the Supreme Court of Virginia has chosen to put politics over the rule of law by issuing a ruling that overturns the April 21st special election on redistricting. This decision silences the voices of the millions of Virginians who cast their ballots in every corner of the Commonwealth, and it fuels the growing fears across our nation about the state of our democracy.

As Attorney General, it is my job to enforce the laws on the books and defend the will of the people. Before the Court, my office clearly laid out both in filings and oral arguments that this constitutional amendment process and voter ratification occurred in a timely, constitutionally-compliant, and legally sound manner.

The Republican-led majority of the Supreme Court of Virginia contorted the plain language of the Constitution and Code of Virginia to give it a meaning that was never intended, which allowed them to reach the wrong legal conclusion that fit their political agenda. The consequences of their error are grave.

The strength and stability of our democracy depends on adherence to the rule of law, the execution of free and fair elections where every eligible voter can cast their ballots to choose their leaders, and public trust in the institutions that provide accountability and protect our democratic processes. This Court’s ruling follows a dangerous trend of tilting power away from the people.

My team is carefully reviewing this unprecedented order and we are evaluating every legal pathway forward to defend the will of the people and protect the integrity of Virginia’s elections."

The 2026 and 2028 elections are going to be decided by gerrymandering. I don't want to hear of a single Democratic state legislature that isn't fully committed to maximizing the gain in seats for the party. This is a political war that needs to be won.

And to be clear, in case it’s not, democracy cannot and will not exist without these protections. We already see a South so heavily gerrymandered that numerical majorities cannot win elections and where a minority holds supermajorities in state legislatures.

We must understand the racist political rhetoric, the erasure and attacks on Black history, the reinstalling of Confederate names and monuments, all go hand-in-hand as the Court and Congress legitimize the taking of political rights and the end of multiracial democracy itself.

The Voting Rights Act is essentially dead and it’s quite possible that we will, like when a similar SCOTUS gutted civil rights at the fall of Reconstruction, see a disappearance of much of the Black congressional representation, especially in the most heavily Black states, which are in the South.
