There is nothing new in tonight’s story, and it is written in an unsurprising way coming from The New York Times given its history in this area. It reads to me more like it got a push to let the Trump admin claim a win than it is actual breaking news. I’m not linking; you can find it if you want.

I was deputy M.E. at the WSJ when Murdoch took over, with a similar “editorial independence board.” Within 4 months, our top editor was gone, replaced by a loyal Murdoch deputy. That board raised a quivering objection, but the deed was done. If the Ellisons own CNN, they’ll do whatever they want.

The Trump administration chose the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks to announce the first deportation carried out through use of a secretive pre-9/11 court that had never been used until this summer.
It did so in the most apt way, announcing that the case had concluded weeks earlier, and the public was only being informed about it on Friday — because that's when the administration wanted to tell the public.

FWIW, I filed a habeas petition in the MDLA more than 3 months ago, and still not a word from the court. (Normally it takes a few days, at most 30-45, before you get a standard two-sentence order telling the other side to respond.)
