Great episode. When I was at uni we went to a recording of Blockbusters. We didn't get to meet Bob but we did get to wander about on the set. He had a stash of mint imperials in a little glass bowl on his podium. Took one, kept it like some kind of holy relic for ages. Sadly lost now.

I auditioned for Blockbusters when I was in upper sixth. Me and a couple of others were taken up to the production office in Birmingham by a teacher early one Sunday. We got interviewed together and got asked triv questions. I got all mine right! But they went with the pretty daft lad instead.

I can but hope to have that recall and eloquence should I reach Joy Whitby's age. It's so important to recognise the achievements of such TV pioneers. So thanks to the two of you for doing just that. Listening was both a touching and life-affirming experience.

Joy should have an OBE at least. Although I would argue that a Damehood would be more appropriate. Jackanory sparked a lifelong passion for books for myself and countless others.

“Here's a house. Here's a door!” 🙂 Pretty sure my earliest TV memory was Play School, but I didn’t know it was actually two years older than me! This was such an enjoyable listen, & a reminder of familiar faces & voices from my childhood, some of whom are no longer with us. Joy Whitby is, though!

Cripes. Just had a very strange, emotional moment of recall. That image of the clock with the rotating pattern around it was one I'd consciously forgotten but was still lurking in my subconscious. It used to fascinate me when I was tiny. I'd forgotten all about it for all these years. Cripes.
