Another great tour today! There were multiple small cliff falls and one with some human sized blocks. Lots of #ammonites were found. Did beach outreach, found a nodule for a wee lassie and it split in one go into a perfect golden ammo. She was super stoked. #geology #paleontology

Another hot of the presses bug for your enjoyment...this time a super fancy Golden Tortoise Beetle for the last day of #InverteFest Stats: Drawing time total 21hr 15 min #SciArt #BugSky #Insects #ArtSky #Illustration #Procreate
An original digital illustration by Loadofolbobbins of a Golden Tortoise Beetle against a white background. Overall a wide oval in shape, the main body of the beetle is like liquid gold, shining and speckled with thin lines of very small dark brown dots that form a loose almost stripe like pattern. The upper section of the beetle also has a more iridescent metallic effect in greens, yellows and blues with dark speckled markings. Surrounding the body and head the outer section of the beetle is a semi transparent plating, where you can just glimpse it's legs curled underneath it.

a set of 4 crab doodles. gumnut is a vase-shaped nut shell, filled with what resembles a hermit crab with radiating pink spindly legs and antennae resembling the flower of an eucalyptus. brassica is an upright bok choy with roots for legs and a pair of boxing gloves-like brussel sprouts for claws. crabgrass is a flat clump of grass with slender appendages that end in leaf blades. pistachio is a cluster of pistachios, one of them open, revealing a smol bean-shaped green crab with barely any legs and claws.

Pitta of the Day: Superb Pitta Endangered 📷 Adam Riley
Bird perched on branch, photo, description from ebird: ‘A medium-sized, long-legged bird of lowland forest undergrowth on Manus in the Admiralty Islands. Mainly jet black with a red belly, extending to the center of the chest, a blue wing patch extending down from the shoulder and some green on the flight feathers. Unmistakable. Feeds on the ground, but usually sings from up in the trees. Song, a 2-note “wow-wow!” repeated at intervals.’

So embarrassing when people think the point of reading a novel is to know the plot, so a summary is just as good. The plot isn’t important, you rube. You absolute simpleton. The point of reading a novel is to find out what the characters are eating and start thinking about what you want for dinner.

Alright I guess I’m not done with new drawings this week, here’s another: Hopf Fibration I
Illustration on pale yellow paper. It features a hopf fibration, a type of a mathematical object, a 3 sphere in terms of circles and an ordinary sphere. It’s sitting in a misty & foamy waterfall, which has hexagonal pillars, beyond which we can see a river and flying dragon, rolling hills and the night sky with stars and a crescent moon. There are bubbles framing the hopf fibration, some of which have spirals and many of the bubbles have been painted with an iridescent gold paint which reads kind of lavender/pink, which is also in the water in choice places as well as for some of the stars. There are also some white highlights. Hatch shaded

House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus) male. Most male house finches are redder, but this guy is #orange. An introduced species, but the males are so pretty, I like seeing them in the backyard if there are not too many. They have a nice song, also. #BirdoftheDay #birds #backyard #Florida
A vertical frame filled with a House Finch male perched up facing the viewer on a thin branch sweeping from the bottom left to top right. Though most House Finch males are reddish to red-purple, this one instead has bright orange from mid-breast to the top of his head. He is cream-colored below and under tail, with brown, eye stripe, fine streaking and what little can be seen of his back. He is looking off to the left showing the large finch beak. The background is mottled greens, except for the left top, which is blues, contrasting nicely with the orange in the bird's head.

It's ironic that the vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis), despite its name, is the one cephalopod species that doesn't eat live prey at all, and instead feasts on marine snow which is made of dead animals, mucus and poop. Ah yes, vampires, well known for eating poop... 🧛🐙📷MBARI
A juvenile vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) floating in the ocean at a depth 762 metres. Its mantle is partially inflated and its arms are all held together except for their tips. It is point toward the right. As it is a juvenile, it has two sets of fins, with one larger pair in the centre of their mantle and a smaller pair at the end. It has big round blue eyes and it is a dark red, almost purple colour.
