Brown University has a widget that tracks the cost of the Iran war to American consumers (as contrasted to whatever the Pentagon is spending). Per-household cost now exceeds $600. iranwarcost.watson.brown.edu

As a Michigan voter, I need to see Whitmer, Peters, and Slotkin expending serious political capital to support him. Campaign appearances all over the state. I would have supported whoever won, but I was dreading canvassing for Stevens. Canvassing for Kamala was really tough here.

I agree that his message has been too narrow. He isn’t as good at translating progressive ideals into kitchen sink policies as other recent successful progressives (Mamdani is masterful at that).

All I meant was, it actually matters to vote for the lesser of two evils if the lesser evil will vote for democratic Supreme Court nominees. I wish Dems ran more leftist candidates, but in the general election it’s got to be a strategic vote

Sadly, I feel like we’re deeply in “better than a Nazi” territory. I think we’re all mostly agreeing here. I’m really hoping Abdul wins, but trying to prepare if he doesn’t.

I desperately want someone who is ready to pack the Supreme Court, abolish ice, and hold the current regime accountable. But the last decade has shown that perfection politics leads to horrific outcomes. I won’t donate/campaign for her but I’ll vote for her because she’ll vote Dem >90% of the time.

I’m another El Sayed supporter in Michigan. I will be pretty devastated if Stevens wins, but also, we need that Dem vote. And, she has much stronger support among Black voters in MI than Abdul does, and he’s leading among white voters. The politics here are complex.

Video shows ICE pulling over a couple for “staring,” who immediately prove they are U.S. citizens. Agents demand the car keys, a Fourth Amendment violation, and falsely claim the driver must be registered to the vehicle. ICE is not authorized to conduct traffic stops in this situation.

And ICE must be abolished. They are hiring and training people who enjoy brutalizing innocent people. They are ignoring the rule of the law and the constitution. There is no redeeming this agency.

Thank you for commenting on the issue. ICE is irredeemable and unreformable. It has become this administrations’ police state. We must abolish ICE. They are gleeful in their violence and do not care about the rule of law or the constitution. Please support defunding and abolishing ICE.

I hope staffers pass along these comments. Here in Michigan, our hearts are in shreds for the people of Minnesota and the horrific violence and terror that’s being inflicted on them. This impacts every single American, and speeds our slide into authoritarian. Stand up for democracy and against ICE

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans. 🧵 1 of 9

Agree. It’s horrific in its own right, and it epitomizes this administration — ripping down our institutions and building a guilded homage to himself while snap funds dry up and our neighbors are kidnapped by masked men.

I think this was true post inauguration, too. The media was proclaiming people were apathetic, but everyone on the local level was working on mutual aid, strengthening community, and also (for those of us who had canvassed tirelessly) taking a breath and waiting for the next mobilization.

More people in DC than in Wyoming or Vermont. Coming up on Alaska and North Dakota. Per capita, we pay more federal income tax than any of the states. (Incl NY, CA, CT, etc.) Voice in Congress: Zero. Have never before felt as much DC-specific patriotism—across race and class—as now.

Yesterday in my community, a dad was picked up by multiple masked ice agents just after dropping his child off at school. This creates a deep sense of fear and insecurity in a space that should feel safe. Thankfully, he was later released, but that further demonstrates the intention is to terrorize
