I regret not watching it when it was on tv - all my friends did - and now I want to watch it but can't find it anywhere. Where do you find it?

It is a favourite place for folks to go to if we're having a lunch out, but I have a compulsive need when I'm having gorgeous Korean food to also have soju, and soju for lunch when you're working is sadly frowned upon 😭

Every time I go to a new station I look for the bin bag reference and whether there is a waiting shelter, and on any new vehicle see if it passes the window rest test 💕

I've got someone in my comments on YT pissy about "having to learn a second language just to say the station names" whose channel is all about bringing rail back to the West Coast so they can reopen the coal mines. The mental leaps involved ....

In a moment of pure manipulation, a National MP has sent my husband a letter addressed not to his legal name (which he goes by), but by his Chinese middle names. Feels very "look we're both Asian, vote against your interests!" and super cringe IMHO

HAHAHA one guy (who runs a youtube channel promoting south island rail ... for the sole purpose of reviving west coast coal mines FFS) got called out for being a racist and without fail pulled the "oh when you get upset you just pull the racist card eh? no need to call names" line

1000% I've specifically looked it up on maps and it's still only in the last couple of years that I've been able to find it reliably. Helpfully, the last tram pole in Tāmaki marks the spot (unintentionally)

FORTUNATELY, as a content creator, this is something YT does kinda well. You don't have to go through and remove that person's comments (which they'd definitely notice), you can just change a setting so that person can no longer publicly post. So they'll see it, but no-one else will 💕

So, my youtube video about Te Waihorotiu has apparently become popular with people now watching a bunch of my content (link below if you're bores) and hoo boy are the racists unhappy. Fair, my pronunciation needs work, but omfg "IT'LL ALWAYS BE BRITOMART TO ME" is tiring. www.youtube.com/@spil030

Oh yeah good point! It could've been called "Queen's Wharf" and then the bus interchange and ferry building similarly renamed. The old end of the line was "Onehunga Wharf", so there's precedent. BUT omfg using a bit of imagination is so nice

Scott Pilkington @spil030.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
That's true, although you could also ask *which* of the stations is Auckland "Central". In many ways Te Waihorotiu would be, particularly since Waitematā is no longer a terminus. In other ways, the Strand would make a better Auckland Central, even though it isn't even central!

To all of the out-of-Aucklanders saying "but how are tourists supposed to find it now that it's renamed? At least Britomart Point was a physical location!" I say "ok, open up google maps on your phone and point it out. Guarantee it wasn't where you thought"

You can also enjoy these on audio books and hear a variety of presenters, with Bill Nighy doing the footnotes. Which are many and plentiful. And the writing is so much cleverer than Rowling. Like, you could have a PhD in the thing and Terry would still fox you.

Just an FYI if you're around the city and bored AF later today, I'm giving this year's AUT Rainbow Research Seminar, talking about Heated Rivalry, Queer masculinities in sport, and Aotearoa museum taonga. Refreshments provided 💕 www.aut.ac.nz/events/rainb...
Image of the first slide of a presentation. It features a screengrab from the tv series Heated Rivalry. In this scene Ilya Rosanov and Shane Hollander are naked in the communal showers, staring at each other. In this instance, however, the image is cropped so you see nothing below about shoulder height. Shane has his back to the camera, but Ilya is looking directly at Shane, and vaguely, at the camera, so you feel his stare. Below this is a title: "Filling the Gap: Queer Masculinity, Absence, and the Desire for Representation" and subtitle: "Scott Pilkington (he/any) | AUT Research Week 2026"

Ok, to make this work: (a) museums will need extended opening hours, say until 10pm or midnight (b) it can't be the whole museum, or you wouldn't crawl. Maybe one floor, or one exhibition (c) the museum will need to do a tie-in, either public programming, or their cafe/bistro doing a deal (or both)

#TodayInQueerHistory Aug 25 (2026) Dolly was a safe space wrapped in sequins. Her warmth, humour and humanity touched us all; her songs pulled on all our heartstrings. Dolly was an ally, supporting queer rights even after losing a Dolly lookalike contest to a drag queen We will always love you.

At this point I wouldn’t care if the policy was confiscation of billionaire assets. Their money is not more important than hospitals or children eating. And if they don’t like it they can leave. Don’t care.

One of the most rewarding parts of the week has been seeing people recognise familiar stories, discover new ones, and share knowledge and experiences with one another. History does not only live in museums and archives; it also lives in communities, conversations, and memory.

Scott Pilkington @spil030.bsky.social · 05/06/2026
Rather than presenting a singular narrative or a definitive account of Queer history, the exhibition aims to stimulate curiosity, conversation, reflection, and connection. To paraphrase Sherlock Holmes, my hope is that it provides visitors with the clay from which to make their own bricks.

Drawing on material from Auckland Museum, Te Papa, Alexander Turnbull Library, MOTAT, and Papers Past, the exhibition brings together around 70 artefacts representing approximately 80 taonga from collections across Aotearoa.

It's been wonderful to see this research project come to fruition in the form of an exhibition exploring how reproductions and recreations of museum taonga can help make Aotearoa Queer history more accessible.
