LOL, the VCs on Twitter are fighting (but it’s a day that ends in “y”, so what else is new). Factory is accusing an advisor of stealing strategic plans and getting a job at competitor Cognition. Our old islamophobic friend Shaun Maguire goes nuclear…maybe literally in his own mind?

Unusual Whales is a hack account that constantly implies Pelosi is insider trading when her husband just buys calls on tech stocks (guess what? that's been an awesome trade) so I'm not at all surprised it frames Dems blocking a voter ID bill in this way.

2024 proves that sufficient numbers of Americans are utter morons and, as long as they have the right to vote, Obama will be 100% correct about this. There is not a majority in this country for rational, material politics.

My favorite way to annoy Confederate sympathizers: telling them that Lincoln would have almost certainly won a free election in 1860 in South Carolina where he was on the ballot and then waiting to see how long it takes them to get it.

My 8YO absolutely loves space and rockets. He has been reading a book about the Apollo program and has been telling me today all about how Werner von Braun helped design the Saturn V. So, that day has finally arrived…the day where I must start teaching my son about WW2 and that Nazis are evil.

a very funny detail: 18% of the negative sentiment is either "AI is going to put this company out of business" or "this company doesn't use AI enough". that's positive on AI lol

Detailed negative comments are much more varied, as workers have many different complaints. Fear of job replacement is most common, but these concerns only appear in 1 in 5 AI-critical reviews.

Job killers (20% of negative comments): the company is or will use AI to replace jobs
AI pushers (14%): the company forces workers to use AI tools
AI distracted (13%): AI is distracting from the core business or degrading the customer experience
AI alienation (10%): AI is used internally in alienating ways, like workplace surveillance or executive comms
Late to the AI game (9%): the company moved too slowly on AI and was left behind
AI delusional (8%): company leadership expects unrealistic productivity gains from AI
AI losers (7%): the core business will be disrupted or replaced by AI
AI withholders (2%): the company does not provide tools, training, or support for AI use

Oh dear. Even the idiots of the All In podcast (which I sometimes need to listen to for work, ugh) seem to now understand that Trump is regularly acting in an erratic manner rather than executing on complex, 17D chess.

Interesting data from Vercel over on Twitter. In the last 2 months, closed source models have gone from 72% of tokens to 38%. And yet, if public statements are correct, both OpenAI and Anthropic have seen accelerating revenue growth. It gives a sense how much the pie is growing for both to be true.

The objections to levered buyouts (“OMG, private equity is buying a company by forcing it to take out loans”) are overblown. The situation is no different from existing owners taking out debt, paying themselves a dividend, and selling the company.

I just don't understand this. I've helped hire many individuals at my current firm. I have no idea whether the people we ultimately selected were the most qualified. Why? Because hiring is never a purely quantitative exercise and "soft" factors play a role in the end result!

This is 100% correct. The polling miss created a sense that Dems “lost” 2020 even though they came out of it with a trifecta, which is what really doomed woke 1. We had to wait days for the networks to call it for Biden (well after it was obvious), we lost House seats, and the Senate was uncertain.

We can debate how much further Soviet armies could have moved when the uprising kicked off given the state of their logistics. There is no debate that the Soviets helped condemn thousands of Polish civilians and Home Army soldiers to death by refusing US/UK access to airbases.

I have no idea what is going on in MI-7, but it is hilarious to see Prospect and a Sunshine co-founder of all people complain about Democrats attacking each other with financial smears based on half truths. Maybe it's time for some self reflection by all parties involved in this?

This is not directed to Abdul but more towards this form of senior citizen populism: There is a thought that constantly echoes in my head that terrifies me, the fact that each election will likely be the youngest electorate of the rest of my life. But I’m sure there’s no problem coming from that…

I think this chart is NBD. (1) It’s a 9 month style trend, which is nothing in the time scale of markets. (2) I bet this is mostly driven by biotech (stocks with no EPS because drugs are in trials) that saw an end to a vicious bear market starting in Sept 2025...right where the lines diverge.

There's a lot of people that don't understand the reason why these schools have 5%, 10%, 15% of their portfolio in SpaceX is because they invested in the early rounds (Founders Fund made its first investment in 2008 @ ~$400mm valuation!) and have made >50x their money on the investment.

Equating an endowment investment in a 2007 vintage VC fund that buys a stake in SpaceX in 2008 with the act of funneling federal research dollars into generating CSAM and shuttering USAID in 2025 is also a form of slopulism.

Thinking of a sci-fi story where a species assumes they are the chosen of God because the length of their homeworld’s rotation around their star is perfectly divisible by a whole number of the revolutions it makes in that time. Leap years become a sign of the degeneracy of other sentient species.
