and the international date line are kind of an obvious practical problem for Guam and NMI and AS in terms of presidential elections (electoral college meets all on same day in every state), but that's hopefully solvable if they wanted statehood in the first place.

A lot of them don't want it. PR is the only one where it's regularly discussed. Guam&NMI I've never heard about it; American Samoa very actively doesn't want it (primarily because a ban on non-native land ownership would be massively illegal). USVI doesn't either, don't remember why. Time zones

Idle curiosity, where can I find a list of who's the broadcaster of record where? More to the point, who the EAS PEPs are?

yeah what this actually is is not “lol the DCCC is broke” it’s “we think we can win way more districts than we originally thought, please give us some more money so we can run up the score” this is good and we want them to succeed

My unpopular opinion is that the average cop on the beat would probably love it if their union was way less politically-involved, and way less political *internally* too. But that requires nuance from, say, Dems and the left. I'm not optimistic nuance will happen. Ever.

If the NYPD is the problem, go after the PBA, SBA, detectives endowment association, etc. Go after the unions. The chief of department isn't the issue here, Pat Lynch as PBA president is.

The problem in NYPD often seems to be the PBA/SBA/etc leadership. Like even for cop unions they are a law unto themselves, and it wouldn't surprise me if sufficiently vigorous federal probes found that they controlled union members, not remotely the other way around.

Positioning the 1A as a barrier to every intervention without offering alternatives that at least acknowledge the problems is now empowering bad solutions from bad actors who are happy to take advantage of the politics and disregard the 1A to their own advantage.

We're about 25 years too late to start building *great* solutions but laissez-faire/Linux-on-the-desktop/hacking-our-way-to-the-promise-land fantasies, gaslighting the problems, and insisting the benefits outweigh the costs are ideas running out of political time.

While IMO the Meta settlement is weak (and probably harmful) soft law, Kingsbury Commitment-style tea, I at least directionally agree with @morganweiland.bsky.social that the reflexive 1A critiques, especially the jawboning worries, are doctrinally (and politically) exhausting and unhelpful.

never change, or that the IvP conflict will never be solved? Yeah, they said that about Ireland in 1992, too. Using the broadest measure, the IvP conflict goes back to 1860. Ireland was, more or less, 1798-2005 or so. Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.
