maybe convert to int anyways (like just x100 cast to int), that way you can be sure what's happening. then you can bitmask out 4 values. each get 8 bits in a 32-bit value.

as int/uint value I can see it works, as float there's like a million things that can go wrong cross-platform.

Any time we hear "AI did this and this", it's not proof programs are becoming sentient, but that the humans deploying said AI did this (which is generally failing to deploy proper sandboxing measures to prevent an AI from going against security) It's not the AI that's rogue, it's the company

Woohoo, got it submitted! And it even has a title screen, which I never seem to get to in game jams lol. Lot of fun working on this though, and looking forward to playing everyone else's #fallingblockjam submissions! Check mine out here: toastergames.itch.io/dice-to-meet...

Yes, it takes active effort to force LLMs to stop polishing your legacy code base and instead rewrite minimal new solutions.

Finally found an Atari game that LLMs can play, here's MiniCPM5-2B at Q4_K_M playing Hangman: (all local, all minc code, except for atari env which is in python).

Changing the uni-kernel over to the new default memory allocator in minc (TLSF with quick lists) made a huge change for the JS interpreter. (JSON.parse 56 µs to 0.5 µs, Buffer.alloc(16) 9 µs to 0.1 µs)

Been fixing some minor issues with the minc-kernel in preparation for open sourcing it. Owning the full stack was one reason for this little experiment - tsmc.minc.dev

minc profile is a built-in mini-profiler for quick and accurate profiling with function names. Agent mode returns data as json, on the cli you get text:

Especially query allows agents to navigate code fast. The minc compiler's own source, 149,000 lines indexes from cold in about 0.3 seconds. Later calls only re-index the files whose modification time or size changed. The LSP stays in-memory as mcp server. You can of course use it on cli as well:

Main new feature is agent mode; minc now comes with {build, run, test, query, profile, debug} commands on CLI or as MCP json interface. Allows an agent to run compiler without parsing terminal text, and with much faster iteration speed. minc.dev/agent-mode.h...

This is not quite "on the metal", since it runs in a VPS. But there's no OS or container system. Drivers for network (virtio-net) and rng (virtio-rng) used by TLS. Filesystem is read-only in RAM. I'll open source it in the next days.

yeah, I tried various more complex state descriptions, but this simple model can't reason accurately on them. It fails to do math basically. you can move the math outside the model, but then it's all kind of pointless.

And yes, there are RL solutions for this that work so much better. This was just a silly test. Local only, 100% minc code.

Local LLM playing breakout. It's quite bad on this setup, but fast! (Not sure text representation is ever good here.) The state is given as "The ball is to the left of the paddle, drifting away from the paddle." and the model outputs {left, stay, right} state. (MiniCPM5-2B-Q4_K_M, M1 GPU)

Single-pass LLM classification on M1 GPU, inspired by SemIf repo and Jev. Running at parity with llama.cpp or slightly faster on M1 for this specific task. (100% minc code, ggml transpiled for CPU path, GPU kernels from scratch in minc, all local).

I was about to publish another minc update but found some issues during final testing so going to delay for next week. In pipeline - Sokol headers updated to match latest C api, a complete rewrite of inlining system, and other optimizations.

yeah, I haven’t used astra but this is typical “default” pick llms do. i made sure all types move unchanged in minc. otherwise all calls to opengl would require expensive reshuffles.

You can still bind/link the libc math functions if you want, but it needs to be renamed: extern "ucrtbase.dll" f64 libc_sin(f64 x) from "sin"; If you need 'optimal' performance an approximation with float4 or f32x8 would have much higher throughput.

Most C runtime math (sin/cos/...) have different implementations on win/mac/linux. On windows/linux runtime it branches on your CPU type. Results usually stay within +/- 1 ULP, with most input exact.

WASM version of the above sample available here: minc.dev/playground/d... Note: wasm doesn't have fused math, it always runs in strict mode. The divergent case is forced with an approximation function to highlight how a 1-bit difference becomes chaotic.

FileData.len is now i64 to support >2GB files. Reads are chunked (a 100 MB file loads about 10x faster). LSP: semantic diagnostics, indexing optimization, completion fixes, resolve fixes. Compiler binary -62 KB (3%) smaller and self-compiles ~2% faster.

minc compiler 0.9.14 now available (minc.dev) Focus on numerical correctness - all math func now in pure minc and identical cross-platform (x64/arm64/wasm). The new implementations are either faster or similar performance of C runtime. New sample chaos pendulum with pinned results:
