I also saw a friend and we visited second-hand stores and bookstores among other things. I did see some interesting books and craft supplies but didn't buy anything.

Lots of manga at Fantasiapelit, a store that sells all sorts of geeky stuff. Not exclusive to Helsinki but this store is probably the biggest.

A craft store I visited with a friend. They had every possible crafting supply you could think of, also a big section of stuff for building miniatures. I longingly stared at the selection of beads and embroidery things.

I promised photos a while ago, so here's some. I visited Helsinki with mom in September, sort of in celebration of my graduation (and to buy pens at Muji). It had been almost seven years since my last visit. The photos were taken both on my phone and my camera. Details in ALT.

One of the things I love most about watching old Wallace & Gromit shorts (not exactly high art, but arguably very much high art) is that you can see fingerprints in the surface of the characters. May all your creations have fingerprints.

ABSOLUTELY! He needs to realize he has reliable people around him that would do anything to help. I understand he doesn't want them involved to protect them but doing everything alone might end up worse. We saw what happened with Anzai.

He has so much responsibility to carry, all alone! I remember how I initially thought "you're 15 what do you know about adulthood" but... he likely HAD to grow up too quickly in these circumstances. I'm sure that at the end of this arc we will see Suo crying and stuffing his face with food 😭

At this point I think I should consider researching fandom culture with actual academic approach. I keep drowning a friend in constant analysis of the things I see going on and I honestly think this deserves a scientific deep dive. (But it'd be a lot of discourse analysis and I'm scared of it 🥲)

(I was horrified when I heard you're allowed to use AI to flesh out the topic/plan for your thesis in our program in uni. Of course you have to show it in the thesis and you have to write the actual thing yourself but... planning is also a big part of it.)

But of course, the list also has AI as one of the big future things. Like, "if AI does the boring work people can focus on creativity". But a worrying amount of people are losing their creativity to AI. "Let's ask what AI thinks", "let AI build that for us".

LRP: In the list of ten or so most important job skills for the future (can't remember who published it first) is in fact creativity. Problem solving through divergent thinking. And I think it can also be kinda opposite to constant, harsh optimization.

Soon after getting home I did indeed get sick, just as I anticipated (lots of people in public spaces in Fall). Nothing too bad, but my body's telling me to take it easy. Kind of annoying bc I wanted to get some things done and not just "laze around". (BEING SICK IS NOT ACTUALLY BEING LAZY!)

I strained my back yesterday trying to fix my squeaky chair (it's still squeaky) and it hurts and I am kinda in sick day mode. I did however manage to walk to the store bc I had to buy food so it's gradually getting better though :|

And I was thinking about what the themes etc here are. Like food for example. The kids eating the food. Suo never eating. Suo talking about feeling empathy for others. Suo feeling the need to be the adult despite being a kid himself? Food is important in Winbre! So is learning to depend on others.

I did feel it in my nervous system, though. I get super sleepy after exercise and I think it's a sign my nerves are overworked. So maybe I'm not that unfit but my nervous system freaks out easily and therefore I think I'm unfit.

Also, I played beach volleyball! I was worried I would be dying in 30 mins bc I'm not fit at all but I was genuinely surprised how well I did. With cycling there and back it was ~3 hours of exercise and I had to take a longer break to eat a snack only once.

In the meantime I also have to learn to create some structure into my days. I want to go back to a school routine because it helped me get things done. But it's so hard to do on your own when you're not executively functioning.

Life update, kinda? Nothing big. I think I'm now done with the thesis FOR REAL. I thought I was done earlier but my advisor (and everything and everyone else) has been, um, difficult so it has been pushed back a lot. So now I must really focus on getting a job. Yippee. Not.
