I think most of all I love that flames that came before jim and merril passed through them to me and my friends and on to others who will make their own things unknowingly inspired by jim and merrils work and quiet social work keeping teens out of trouble.

I'm so glad we got to give the world a taste of what it was like playing rifts and gamma world and D&D at our mid 90s south florida tabletops. We really thought we had something special, and I guess we did.

Yep. Supposedly they're a years-long journalism vet, but literally no one explained embargoes to them. Truly baffling.

been obsessed with this song/video recently and had to draw this lol

artwork referencing the "can u get pregante...?" song and animated music video by JavaDoodles, featuring characters from CITY. the top half of the drawing shows Nagumo (right) making a wide gesture toward Tsuchinoko (left), accompanied by a screencap of a Yahoo Answers user posing the question "I think my dog is pregernet???" the bottom half of the drawing shows Niikura (left) sliding across the ground on her knees, hands thrown up into the air as Mimineko (right) watches her with disdain. another Yahoo Answers question is displayed beside her, asking "How do I know if I'M prengan?"

Young game journos, if you think it's tough to keep embargoes nowadays, please remember that I discovered Galarian Meowth during SwSh embargo and had to bottle up my screams for *weeks.*

a pic of Galarian meowth. If you're blind or visually impaired you might not know this, but its chin looks like a giant spiky ball sack.

As someone who has gone through "onboarding" at a Valnet website, it is 100% believable that this person has never even been told what an "embargo" is and the difference between that and a "deadline".

This happening at a Valnet owned site is proof that games media cannot continue to exist with 0 mentorship, editorial oversight, general education for new writers. No writer assigned a review should not understand what an "embargo" is and how to uphold it. This is just as much on their editor.

I said this at the beginning of the year and it feels even more true now - the way the MAGA cult views racial and religious minorities mirrors this passage that Philip K. Dick wrote about how antisemites view Jews:

Excerpt from Voices From the Street by Philip K. Dick, written in the early 50s. (It looks odd because I copied the beginning of the first paragraph from the previous page and pasted it into this photo.):

"The Golds hadn't asked for this world, any more than he had. They had been born involuntarily. And now that they were here their presence was
were
resented, as if they had somehow conspired to exist, as if their birth part of some occult scheme. As if, by being born and trying to live like every- body else, they were getting away with something. Managing to put over a dishonest enterprise.
And the great exposers were only calling attention to the enterprise. By pointing at the Golds they proved the reality of the conspiracy. By being born, the Golds validated the theory. The Golds had only to occupy space and breathe air to offend the theorists. They had already demanded too much. The theorists had to reveal nothing more than that the Jews existed; that was sufficient. By showing that Jews could be found standing on street corners, or sitting in movie theaters, or driving buses, or telling jokes on the radio-wherever a Jew existed he proved the dogma of the theorist. Only by ceasing to exist was the Jew safe. Only by quickly dying could he erase the taint, the guilt of trying to survive."

randomly found this post again after completely forgetting in absolute totality that I wanted to inject "the fucking serfs won't slap the pond" into my lexicon.

my favorite bit of "rich people are Like That" ephemera that I picked up from my Russian literature binge was from a noble character who was complaining about his serfs neglecting their duties, specifically the duty of staying up all night long slapping the pond water in order to prevent the frogs from croaking so that the nobleman could enjoy his sleep at his country estate with its adorable pond. whenever I hear wealthy people's complaints in this day and age the majority of it automatically filters to "the fucking serfs won't slap the pond anymore and it's honestly so destructive and cruel of them to deny me my beauty sleep like this" type statements
