I think for me DQ is the only definition of a “cozy” game series that I’m willing to accept… In part because it’s not “wholesome”… There’s cute characters and enemies, sure but a lot of them are cute in an ugly or wretched kind of way… it’s horny, goofy and not above toilet humour…

I hope Square ports and locs the remaining games because I do think Torneko is a franchise they've slept on too long and could do better than Shiren abroad. But I think Spike Chunsoft should handle subsequent entries themselves from now on and while crediting loc folks (which they did on Shiren 6!).

The credits also seem to lend credence to the theory that parts of this version may have been vibe coded. No smoking gun, but SE's "Engine and AI Division" is heavily featured. Most of the loc team isn't credited either; just the project lead and agencies, which is hugely disappointing for SE. 😔

Torneko HD FINALLY got patched on Switch/S2 yesterday, so I picked up my save and beat it first try. (Not literally, but, y'know.) Mixed feelings overall. The patch does make diagonal movement tolerable, but it's still overall slower and clunkier than on SNES barring some minor QOL improvements. 🤷
