Even dogs get victim blamed when drivers kill them. This is absolute ghoul behavior.
A Facebook post about a driver in Auburn hitting and killing a dogWas the dog on a leash. Why was the dog in the road?

I am sorry that this happened. Just a question, was the walker wearing reflective clothing with a flash light while they were walking on the road with the dogs. If they are wearing all black, they are not going to be spotted. But on the flip side, if the driver felt or heard a noise they should have stoppedWas the walker wearing high vis or the usual black, navy blue, or dark Grey?

Did the driver swerve to hit the dog or was it dog not under the owners control? If the dog wasn’t on a leash, then we know who was at fault . As far as I’m aware, Massachusetts has a leash law, and that goes for even walking your dogs in the woods.

If, as speculated, this was caused by the driver hitting the accelerator due to human error or medical event, let's be 100% clear: That does not make it "just one of those things." That does not make it "unforeseeable." That does not make it "unpreventable." This is not an acceptable failure mode.

The city filed a stipulation to settle the case in the plaintiff’s favor on Aug. 27, stating that it will “not enforce, implement or attempt to enforce or implement” the ordinance to reduce city spending on the case. The plaintiff’s, Zachary R. Chertok and Eliot Jokelson, responded Aug. 28 that they would accept the stipulation for a permanent injunction on the condition that the city declares the ordinance exceeds legal authority and is “unenforceable,” according to court records.

If approved by the court, this would essentially nullify the law, which has drawn concerns from not only councilors and residents but also state Senator Pat Jehlen.

This is a really important aspect of this as narrower roads with no lines do force drivers to slow down. I encounter these kinds of roads pretty frequently where I live and the car traffic is noticeably slower. It also makes it easier to "take the lane" as a cyclist.
The measures apply to about 870,000km of roads that are less than 5.5 metres wide and do not have centre lines or median strips, according to the Mainichi Shimbun. They account for about 70% of the country’s general roads, the newspaper said.

Two months later, the city council in Chicopee, Massachusetts, approved a five-year, $837,500 contract with Peregrine, to be paid using opioid funds.

Chicopee was among the western Massachusetts cities hit hardest by the opioid crisis, and in 2024, it still had the second-highest overdose rate in Hampden County. In meeting minutes, the Chicopee mayor noted there was “quite a bit of money in the opioid agreement account” and said that the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office supported increasing the Peregrine contract from three years to five years.

Peregrine Contracts
At least six locations have used opioid settlement funds to pay for expensive contracts with Peregrine, an AI-driven data aggregation and police surveillance platform.
