Today's episode of Untaxing unfolded the history of the napkin, asked whether it's true that tax rises reduce tax revenue, and looked at the experiment the Scottish government are kindly conducting to discover the peak of the Laffer curve. You can listen to it here: buff.ly/qWpBZST

My take on the latest greyhound injuries stats - 1 in 8 racing greyhounds injured in 2024. About 1 in 15 killed. The State subsidised the sport with €19.8m in funding last year: Time to re-evaluate exactly what greyhound racing contributes to Irish life www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

Britain’s Coal Age ended not with a bang but a quiet flick of a switch. The last coal power station was recently shut down and the nation that birthed the steam engine no longer burns coal for energy – a milestone we barely noticed. So, what are the implications? | Janne Korhonen

The end of coal power marked a key moment in the UK's transition to clean energy. Did anyone notice?

This is just a gentle reminder of who the status quo inheritance tax wise works for (there’s a reason the very largest estates pay less than some far smaller) & that proper facts should form part of proper journalism when reporting an entirely legit inheritance tax debate

When someone's pet passes away, give them time and support them while they work through it. Their pet was a beloved friend who completely depended on them. They were responsible for every decision about their pet's wellbeing, especially the final one. It's a huge emotional load to carry. #dogs

On International Men's Day, we celebrate the positive contributions of men and boys in our society. We also recognise issues disproportionately affecting men's wellbeing. Men continue to face higher levels of rough sleeping, lower life expectancy, and higher rates of suicide.
A grid of cartoon men of various nationalities, skin tones, hair colours and shapes and sizes. Each is drawn in an exaggerated, cartoon style in pastel colour tones and is situated in a pastel window. The middle 3 windows of the 3x3 grid are filled with the words 'International Men's Day'.

Its a “snuggle in front of the fire after a long walk” type of day 🪵🐾
A brindle greyhound lays on his mat in front of a logburning fire. He lays in the most awkward manner with his bottom facing one way and his head another in an S-shape, and one of his front legs is ourstreched - but apparently he his “hecking comf”!
