customizing winxp's file explorer got me thinking about toolbar-based interface design. why did everybody (except Qt devs) move away from that? being able to rearrange buttons, split and group them, choose between labels or icons or both... it's an old aspect of customization people tend to overlook

so this vaio can't boot to USB on its own, which makes sense since it predates that being A Thing. a common workaround is to use a CD bootloader called "plop", which handles booting to USB, but that was hanging turns out. if I insert one of sony's fuckass Memory Sticks™ into the slot. it fixes that
