one thing I can't seem to deal with is how stupid, arbitrary, irrelevant to anything that actually matters, all the problems are. it's all just made up! the ones that have been going on for thousands of years are stupid. the brand new ones that keep getting invented every twenty seconds are stupid.

sent this blog post to my labour MP
email subject: Please read this.

email contents:

Hi Michael,
I would really appreciate it if you could read this blog post from a parent of a trans child in the UK who is having to move their entire family to another country because of extremely harmful transphobic rhetoric and policies. Policies your government has put and is putting in place, even as the new prime minister talks non stop about "hope".

I don't think I want a reply to this email, I don't think I can take another "dignity and respect" when people in my community including children (especially the children) are being treated so badly they are literally fleeing the country. I'm sure you've seen the statistics on how far the UK has fallen in terms of LGBTQ+ rights. Your party and government are the ones who could make life better for people like me, and people like the child in this post, but they are actively choosing to make things worse.

I hope you read this blog post and I hope it makes you feel something. It's made me feel something I've been trying to hold off for a very long time now: despair.

It would be nice if we had a party in power that wasn’t constantly indulging in exactly the same “disabled people cost too much” rhetoric and policy as in nazi Germany - and that’s not an exaggeration

A bluesky post from centrist wallet inspectee and Tool fan Ian Dunt. It says "No ifs and no buts, no caveats or provisos. Things are happening here which we haven't ever really seen before. Burnham is saying the things that are considered unsayable and doing the things which are considered undoable."

They’re making the assumption that parents will pick up the slack for adults which is very assuming people don’t have abusive parents. Labour: the party of terrorising disabled people, constantly
Disabled people can experience domestic abuse from abusive parents or carers, which may include physical, psychological, sexual, financial, or coercive control; abusers sometimes use a disabled person's reliance on care to justify or hide the abuse.

Andy Burnham seems to remember a different 1970s to the rest of us. Britain in 1979 was utterly broken - ravaged by unaccountable trade union power, economically stagnant, the sick man of Europe.
The 1980s saw a remarkable national recovery based on free enterprise, the rule of law and championing Western values. And it is this that our Prime Minister rails against...

Why is this ruinous and uncorrected tory austerity rarely discussed?
During the 2010s, councils' overall core funding per person fell by 26% in real terms, on average, with higher council tax revenues only partially offsetting a 46% fall in funding from central government. But these cuts affected areas differently: in the most deprived tenth of councils, funding per person fell by 35%, compared with 15% in the least deprived areas. Councils in the North and London were also relatively harder hit.

ffs, offloading the last dregs of the social democratic state and feeding it to the military is not "progressive". the only UK hospital built recently is a joint MoD project. half of UK schools reported being in partnership with an *arms company*. this is hell, actually.

Snap polling also "found" that the public supported winter fuel payments being cut, but that turned around when people actually realised what it meant, so take that YouGov poll - much like all other YouGov polls - with less a grain of salt and more one of those himalayan salt lamps

Proposal: the fines levied on the water companies for serious environmental failure like this should be set at a sum equal to what the company paid in dividends + any executive bonuses, in the previous year (since this is a good estimate of the ‘spare’ money sloshing about) for a first offence …

I’ve always said this country is total bad vibes when it comes to elders when you visit other countries and see old people enjoying themselves and very much part of society. And people proposing more pensioner poverty prove my point. Anyone who refers to funding elders as a “burden” - vile
