www.abundanceandgrowth.org/p/transit-or... my kingdom for a live local/SB79 type bill around transit stops, although we had a discussion about it a little bit ago at a leg lab meeting and there wasn’t much agreement that it would do a lot in the burbs!

Transit-Oriented Development is a surprisingly underrated path to ending America’s housing problems
America’s rail systems are still recovering from 2020, and robot cars are coming. Legalize apartments first.

maybe someone can ask the mayoral candidates what they would do to stop this slow motion disaster. it's heartbreaking to read the interviewees say they don't see a future for Black Chicago

Progressive caucus endorsed pro on Twitter
Statement graphic from the Chicago Progressive Caucus (logo with red six-pointed star), white text over a purple panel on a line-drawn Chicago greystone. It reads: "In 1986, Chicago passed the monumental Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance under Mayor Harold Washington. 40 years later, the rental market has changed dramatically. It's time to bring Chicago's tenant protections into the 21st century. Over the last several months, our members have spent hours hearing from directly impacted tenants, community organizations, and small landlords to understand how this can best be achieved. After extensive conversations and negotiations which resulted in the addition of amendments that reduce burdens on small landlords, our caucus is excited to endorse the Protecting Renters Ordinance. This is a generational opportunity to improve the lives of Chicagoans, and we look forward to continued conversations with our colleagues that move us towards passage of PRO."

Huh I wonder if some sort of web portal where you dump in the csvs, have some analysis in the backend, and have the files ready to download would suffice here. Much to think about

@dvillalobos.bsky.social's 100+ page plan recommends protecting the character of the area while reviving Archer and Cicero avenues by adding corridor housing and mixed-use buildings, pedestrian-focused streetscape improvements, and more tree coverage to match Garfield Ridge’s suburban neighbors.

I think it serves more to think about the NIMBYism as partly a process complaint - for literal decades the community around there was ignored and had a bunch of plans set then revoked, so (being charitable) I think a bunch of them feel yanked around + are scared of being priced out

Many of the folks in communities that would benefit from these trees do not trust government to maintain them after decades of disinvestment! But the public health benefits are clear. Tricky conversations to be had, gov should work on restoring trust!
