See digger. I went on a whim because I wondered why the reviews were so mixed, and came away rethinking my relationship to political satire as a whole. I fell asleep thinking about Digger, then dreamt about Digger, and woke up still thinking about Digger

They play this song every day in target. And by that I mean I thought I hadn't heard it, but then I went to work, and realized it had been a song I've been blocking out for months. Its absolute white noise for shopping playlists.

I just spent a stupid amount of money for a monthly from 1987 bc of this Zelda poster I want to scan. Add to the cost: I bought the issue before only to find the poster missing. This will be the most I've ever spent for one piece of #zelda art. I'm not doing the math, I'll hate myself too much.

I'm not mourning my own situation, im pissed at how huge of a loss this is for low income people who buy their games used, pay for video game rentals, or use their public library. The infrastructure isnt there right now for digital, so there just isnt a replacement

000

Marimo @slowpoke.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

I have a decent physical library im proud of I have a large digital library of games like like to dip in and play without having to get up and search my shelf I also emulate because thats where the true preservation lives

Marimo @slowpoke.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

Id argue physical games haven't actually been around since consoles started using the discs as installers. Consumers notice changes like that. Its really been a slow progression, but that doesnt mean that the people who buy the games digitally do it because of a preference It is what it is

100

Marimo @slowpoke.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

Things that have changed over the last 20 years More games than before release exclusively digital Consumers do prefer to buy some* games digitally Large portion of gaming base buy yearly releases of shooters and sports games Digital consoles were up to $100 cheaper at launch Live services

100

Marimo @slowpoke.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

Data showing the apparent shrinking of the physical side of gaming ignore the decade+ of careful shaping of the industry by companies towards digital because it makes them more money. Its like looking at smartphone sales and deciding the data show customers dont want charger cords

100

Marimo @slowpoke.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

I keep seeing "consumer habits" being brought up as a valid excuse for game publishers ending physical media, so ill be blunt. There could be charts showing exactly 1 person buys physical games, and they still wouldnt prove that consumers prefer digital

Wii's one of the only consoles where people actively ignore the good games to focus entirely on the bad Like imagine saying PS2 sucks because of Snow White and The Seven Clever Boys

Circumstantial, maybe even coincidental, but my Target just moved Switch 2 to the front of their tech section. We have like 3 aisles of just nintendo stuff Could be nothing, but im not gonna be suprised if we see retail move more to promote companies that currently plan on continuing physical games
