I'm sure the monorail support just jumped out of nowhere. Nothing could have prevented the crash.

It's Day 3 of the #WeekWithoutDriving and a weekend. Just re-upping that we couldn't do the hike and trip audit on the weekend by transit because Dockton-Maury isn't served by @kingcountymetro.bsky.social on the weekends. Several folks actually took the day off work to join us.

The added irony being this hike was for #weekwithoutdriving. I've sometimes thought about what my life would be like if I could drive. I don't really know but hope it wouldn't be harassing hikers while illegally dumping trash.

Not only did we really have to watch the clock so we could get back home before the sun went down, it also meant we didn't have time to stop in downtown Vashon for lunch, so some businesses lost out! Better transit doesn't just help non-drivers, it helps everyone. #weekwithoutdriving

We had another great hike w/ @transittrekker.bsky.social, this time on Maury Island! The park is only accessible by bus during the week, but taking the day off was worth it. The weather, the company, and the scenery were all excellent! #weekwithoutdriving

It could still be better, too! The 130th bike lanes need to be extended to the Interurban at least, which is only another 4 blocks. Not only would that be great for biking to the Pinehurst station, it would make it possible to access businesses on Aurora safely as well.

Somebody should probably tell Starbucks that people drink coffee, not cars. Having a product consumed by people in an environment built for deadly machines is not a winning strategy, despite what the MBAs might try to justify to their shareholders.

Might I suggest a congestion charge to backfill this funding gap? Hopefully in 2026 this is no longer a radical idea, now that some other cities have gone first. Not only would this raise money, it would cause the existing infrastructure to be used more efficiently @mayor.seattle.gov

I always wanted to get to Discovery Park without needing to cross the locks, guess I have my wish. And if all we needed was a LLM slop bot to get rid of Aurora, I might actually be in favor of them. Well, not really, but LLMs are never going to be useful so I might as well say it anyway.

We banned rental junk fees! Starting July 1st, 2027, the price you see is the price you pay — no pet rent, no admin fees, no lease renewal fees. Step by step, we’re building an affordable Seattle. Aurora has way more capacity with this plan, since the E Line becomes are more effective alternative. On top of that, we now have Link as an alternative.

This segment about public safety is worth a listen and Guy Oron makes an excellent point about the lack of criticism of the Harrell administration, during which gun violence continued to rise in Seattle despite a national downward trend. Seattles #1 public safety issue since 2023 is traffic safety.

The SeaTac parking garage is by far the largest parking structure in North America. Even assuming the Port cares about that dubious distinction, it would have to lose 1200 spaces (~10%) to become #2. Losing a few dozen spots would give transit users the space they need, which drivers already have.

I had an asthma flare up at the beginning of the year, and needed spriometry (lung function) tests. The day of my tests I was breathing fine, so I biked, and got yelled at by the tech administering the tests, even though no one told me not to bike ("Why didn't you just drive?!").

The problem isn't the trains. The problem isn't the cyclists and pedestrians. The problem is that the road is at least two lanes too wide to accommodate the people who think they need an appliance over 10x the size of their person just to get coffee.

As a pedestrian, I'm told I need to pay 100% attention to drivers and make eye contact with them before even approaching a road, or I should expect to die. That's normal for me. We know what this kind of technology does. www.washington.edu/news/2025/12...

Working class doesn't take transit, nor are they forced to live off stroads that badly need traffic calming? I wish I could say that's a new one, but I hear it all the time on NextDoor too. I hope this DSA chapter can come to its senses soon.

I don't rent anymore, but who wouldn't want more housing stability for the majority of households in the city who do? Mayor Wilson is right that she has more work to do, but she's already done more in 8 months than any other Seattle mayor in my memory.

I think more business owners need to understand that pedestrians, bus riders, and cyclists are customers too. When I found out that Molly Moon is anti-bike lane (along with anti-mask, anti-worker, and Hummer driver), I stopped buying her ice cream, and tell everyone else to boycott too.

What cyclists aren't pedestrians? I stop because when I'm not a cyclist, I'm a pedestrian and know how safety works. Somehow, this way of thinking doesn't seem to work for drivers, who are also pedestrians.

I love flying from northern WI to Chicago, where you spend as much time taxiing as you do in the air, all so we don't have to run trains that can serve so many more destinations at less cost and pollution, and more comfort. Maybe someday we'll get back to what we had in 1970

It's amazing how she's somehow responsible for every systemic issue and every problem she inherited from Harrell, yet the same people blaming her for that don't give her credit for being vastly more productive than him. It's almost as if the media coverage were unbalanced/unhinged.

The time for Demowski to do this was anytime in the 12 years since the county last tried to put a county-wide transit benefit district on the ballot. Seattle pays for more bus service, so we get more. Instead, the county is using their transportation taxing authority to pay for more roads.
