Shower thought
Being in production with live traffic or live library downloads is a shorthand way of saying “I am responsible to my team and my users.”

Any decisions around the presence or absence of unit tests, integration tests, metrics dashboards, CI/CD or code review should be viewed through the lens or “is what I am doing creating a stronger or weaker contract between me and my team and my users?”

Pink Page

I want to draw a pair of shoes.
I want to make a mistake!
A better mistake than I’ve made in
Of my life … a strikethrough stirs
The air, trembles.
Graphite occurs perfectly, not in our pencils.
“A monocrystalline whisker
Is a filament of material
That is structured as a single,
Defect-free bristle.” Tap tap
Down the hall
A pair of heels
Speaking low, unbroken,
In monocrystal.

Imagine if we simply left murders by students on college campuses to be punished by colleges, using only the internal punishments they are able to inflict. We would find it insane and intolerable. Rape isn't that far off in terms of severity. Why are we putting utterly unsuited orgs in charge?

I think about this interview with the distinguished philosopher Conan O'Brien a lot. I actually think this is a healthy way to live your life! www.nytimes.com/2019/01/14/a...
Is this how you want to go out, with a show that gets smaller and smaller until it’s gone?

Maybe that’s O.K. I think you have more of a problem with that than I do. [Laughs.] At this point in my career, I could go out with a grand, 21-gun salute, and climb into a rocket and the entire Supreme Court walks out and they jointly press a button, I’m shot up into the air and there’s an explosion and it’s orange and it spells, “Good night and God love.” In this culture? Two years later, it’s going to be, who’s Conan? This is going to sound grim, but eventually, all our graves go unattended.

You’re right, that does sound grim.

Sorry. Calvin Coolidge was a pretty popular president. I’ve been to his grave in Vermont. It has the presidential seal on it. Nobody was there. And by the way, I’m the only late-night host that has been to Calvin Coolidge’s grave. I think that’s what separates me from the other hosts.

I had a great conversation with Albert Brooks once. When I met him for the first time, I was kind of stammering. I said, you make movies, they live on forever. I just do these late-night shows, they get lost, they’re never seen again and who cares? And he looked at me and he said, [Albert Brooks voice] “What are you talking about? None of it matters.” None of it matters? “No, that’s the secret. In 1940, people said Clark Gable is the face of the 20th Century. Who [expletive] thinks about Clark Gable? It doesn’t matter. You’ll be forgotten. I’ll be forgotten. We’ll all be forgotten.” It’s so funny because you’d think that would depress me. I was walking on air after that.

Sorry you hate the First Amendment so much. Her identity is obviously newsworthy at this point, and I will take extreme pleasure in reporting it. (Not "doxing" -- that's a total canard)

I think I've heard this song (at the gym) and my take is it's not a lasting good song and in 20 years we'll still be listening to "all I want for Christmas is you" but very few people will be revisiting this rather dull bit of fluff (also because who will want to revisit this era ugh)

I was mildly persuaded that maybe either a) the AI will get really good at picking questions to ask to figure out what to do and/or b) we'll just have like magic words we say to the AI that somehow encode information that would be the complexity of a path through a normal program. Maybe.

That's the beauty of bsky, it doesn't have to be a capital offense, you can just decide that it's best not to interact and actually create a firm boundary to do so

I think it's pretty rude to extrapolate a whole thing off of one statement. A rudeness that was repeated over and over and over. Honestly, I just don't need to interact with that so I won't, it's better that way

True but mostly a few people learned a thing and then the things were effectively systematized so many could take advantage without actually figuring out the details eh? I guess the AI could have its own hivemind of shared programs that people just called by some codeword
