There's a loud group of people who say they want morally grey characters and... no they don't. I've seen how they respond to actual moral ambiguity. It scares and confuses them. They want characters they're still allowed to find cool despite being assholes because they're projecting.

How would you even fund a story-driven serialized single-player content model? It feels like even DLC or pass-based games would just mostly die to player migration. Games eat time and lose "fun" as interactive media and take even more time, cost, and effort to craft. Gacha cannot be the answer...
