iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Sunshine through the wattle during my walk today.

Another way back to my ‘self’ is to let my old sense of self go. Gently. My new self-identify is a more mature version who embraces my life experience. She is happy to share without building a sense of obligation and expectation. I like this part of myself.

I have been looking for ways to find my way back. Back to what? Back to participating in society in ways that don't make my nervous system want to turn itself inside out. Ín gentle ways. In ways that work with my strengths and don't erode my confidence. I continue as a carer in the meantime.

I am writing a workhop talk about 'modern witchcraft today' and I'm actually not focusing on the definitions of 'modern' anything anchored or defined in the past >70yrs ago....what a concept! Thoroughly enjoying pulling my thoughts together so far.

Academic besties, I'm begging you to stop giving your students snippets from books about Wicca published in the eighties and acting like it's contemporary and representative. I made you a present (and it's cheap)! Happy Halloween season, religious studies! bookshop.org/p/books/witc...

And when folks start to charge beyond covering costs and shifting into a profit model, it transforms relationships to a service provider/customer dynamic. And that alters things. In my opinion it's not a healthy dynamic in Australian Witchcraft spaces. #witchsky #australianwitchsky

Salient info: British citizen Becky Burke was stopped at the Canadian border while on a backpacking trip. Being held by ICE in Tacoma WA. Two unrelated German tourists—Jessica Brösche & Lucas Sielaff—being held in San Diego for over a month. By being held, I mean in ICE detention, aka jail.

I've put together a summary document which covers off what we have learned about whilst reading Scott Cunningham's Incense, Oils and Brews over the last few months. It's been fun! Click here and read the summary document to catch up on it all bit.ly/3AvyTID #witchsky #witchskysydney #paganfringe

Sometimes the tiniest things can feel so subversive. I often replace the word “work” with “labor” in my day to day conversations and it always makes people pause and starts conversations. “Oh after Pilates it’s time to go labor.” “What sort of labor do you perform?” I mean, that’s what it *is*.

If Lunar New Year’s Eve & Day were public holidays, we’d be getting a 5 day long weekend instead of a 3 day one #justsaying Anyway, resharing a piece I wrote in 2023 about why we need more public holidays that reflect Australia’s multicultural makeup www.lowyinstitute.org/the-interpre... #auspol

Our public holidays should reflect Australia’s multicultural make-up

Many countries in the region already have more public holidays to recognise diverse cultural and religious populations.

I remember when advocating for mercy and compassion was considered Christian. Now it's considered radical ideology.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

This is such a difficult time online. Increasingly, even if I want to stay in touch with creators I like, who aren’t independent media, I need to pay. Some do this for safety and offer low cost options, but increasingly, it’s to further participate and uphold capitalist structures. I am conflicted.

For the avoidance of doubt, I am deeply fucking disturbed and horrified at current events. I am referring to Elon Musk throwing out deliberate nazi salutes, multiple times and being cheered on for it by the crowd he was speaking to. Humanity is absolutely fucking doomed.

Cooking videos on TikTok lull me into the false assumption that I can cook an *entire* curry meal from scratch. I managed a brilliant lamb vindaloo, butter chicken and a mixed dahl and rice before resorting to store bought naan & frozen bhaji. Absolutely delicious!
