Another way back to my ‘self’ is to let my old sense of self go. Gently. My new self-identify is a more mature version who embraces my life experience. She is happy to share without building a sense of obligation and expectation. I like this part of myself.

I have been looking for ways to find my way back. Back to what? Back to participating in society in ways that don't make my nervous system want to turn itself inside out. Ín gentle ways. In ways that work with my strengths and don't erode my confidence. I continue as a carer in the meantime.

I'm retraining in end-of-life death care because I’ve lost most of my family of origin within the last 15yrs. It's an important part of life to not shy away from. Everyone will face death sometime, so why not learn to dance with death instead of avoiding it? Find joy and beauty in the everyday too.

The intersectionality of my lived experience over time is getting me through a challenging phase of life, along with therapy. So much therapy. I spend alot on therapy because my choice of religious expression and craft won't 'fix' this on its own. And it's not supposed to.

I try not to let the c-PTSD and MH stuff get in the way, but it frequently does because the shadow of extreme childhood trauma comes back to haunt you when you’re trying to raise your own kids. It's triggering. Most of what I grew up with would make your toes curl.

Australian here. It’s hideously expensive to travel overseas, cost of living is also high, and somehow we fit it in as we are fortunate & privileged to be able to do it. Personally we don’t travel often due to caring responsibilities at home.

THIS, a million times this. And you can choose to lead by example by providing a good and solid example of *how* to handle conflict well if you know how or if you've learned over time. You don't always have to look to others for that leadership if you can stand up yourself.

Salient info: British citizen Becky Burke was stopped at the Canadian border while on a backpacking trip. Being held by ICE in Tacoma WA. Two unrelated German tourists—Jessica Brösche & Lucas Sielaff—being held in San Diego for over a month. By being held, I mean in ICE detention, aka jail.
