I spent most of yesterday figuring out how to track guitars in Ableton Live 12. I had to spend a solid hour thinking about latency, but I'm super pleased with myself. I keep thinking about all of the toxic ass men I could've avoided if I'd had a DAW in 2007 and had made my own drummers, like god.

I was a senior at a DC high school with military parents, one who worked at the Pentagon. We did not have TVs to tell us what was happening in the moment. We thought DC was being bombed. Roads and the Metro closed and the city was full of smoke. It still blows my mind that we only talk about NYC.

I’m going through my mom’s attic and oh my god

Me in late middle school/early high school, probably 1999 or so. I’m wearing an oversized Tool shirt, roller blades, and all the safety gear. On a suburban street, looking into the camera and making an exasperated face. I’m probably mad my mom is insisting on taking a photo and anxiously waiting for my real life to begin, where I’m a famous musician and also an elite roller blader.

The other Beach Boys are feeding the goats. Mike Love, however, is suspicious of the goats. Mikes got some treats in his pockets, which he *could* give the goats, but, because he’s greedy and likes Mike Love far more than he could ever like goats, he’s decided to keep the treats for himself.

The cover of my first pressing (stereo, UK) of Pet Sounds. I have since sold this record. Shocking, I know. It's a classic. It did a lot to change the face of popular music. But it's always been a record I admire rather than love. It's never got its hooks into me like 'Revolver' or 'Rubber Soul' does, and I get much more enjoyment out of later Beach Boys LPs such as 'Holland' and 'Carl And The Passions'. So, being brutal, and honest about my listening habits, I decided it had to go. Hopefully someone else who connects with it in a way I never did is really enjoying it.

My abusive ex was a well-loved Raleigh musician who did Yoga, liked cats, talked about progressive ideas, dressed well, and was almost universally regarded as a Very Good Person. His friends and peers were shocked. It took years and one slip in front of one person who had more power than me.
