As a high school then college math instructor, I hate the phrase improper fraction because it is the preferred answer every time, but the word improper gives it a negative connotation. The only time a mixed number is helpful is as a final answer to a word problem, and decimals are much more common.

I was so confused with your post that I waited until others posts were made, because of course the hypotenuse of every triangle exactly lines up as the leg of the next one. 🤣 But I get it now.

A digital graphic promoting Side With Love’s risk discernment toolkit for Unitarian Universalist congregations. The background features an abstract painting with bold red, orange, and pink brushstrokes. At the top, two logos appear: in the center is the dark pink and white flaming chalice UUA logo. To the right of this is the Side With Love logo, which includes a black heart outline and the words "Side With Love" in black and yellow. Below the logos, black text on a transparent white background reads: "When risks are real, how can UU congregations decide which actions and partnerships align with both their values and their capacity?"

At the bottom left, a green circular sign with a black outline features the words "START HERE" in black uppercase letters, with yellow stars and a black arrow pointing to a beige box outlined in black and green. Inside the box, black text reads: "Get Side With Love’s toolkit for hosting important risk discernment conversations," and below it, the shortened link "http://bit.ly/risk-discernment " is displayed in bold pink text.

What Works For Me! “My new math mantra (and for life, really) is ‘Make the mistake.’ I call, ‘Who thinks they got it wrong / thinks they need help? Can we share your answer to learn from it?’ I will circulate and tell kids who volunteer: ‘I see you, but you got it right... Hold that for a minute, let’s see if we can fix a mistake instead.’ Kids are taking a lot more risks and getting better in the process.” —Taryn Ballesty, Teacher
