To address this issue, we turned to a rather unconventional data source: My absolute favorite website, The Pudding (@pudding.cool) published an article a few years back that happened to collect the perfect data set for this question. See pudding.cool/2022/04/rand... (and the thread below).

Writing a grant application feels like a weird remake of Ocean's Eleven. Assemble a team! Each person has a purpose, a specific skillset. Make a plan! Every detail should be thought of, carefully scheduled. I guess it's exactly Ocean's Eleven, but with 100 other teams planning the very same heist

What could be more Halloween than a BAT? How about a bat colored like a JACK-O-LANTERN? Let's meet the Painted Bat (Kerivoula picta), also called the butterfly bat, native to SE Asia. 🦇🎃 (📷: MerlinTuttle.org)

My last 2 submitted manuscripts both came back with at least one AI generated "peer" review. The other reviewer for the last MS I reviewed also submitted an AI review. Beyond public humiliation, what are we going to do about these copyright-violating lazy SOBs sending our work into the AI machine?

That was a crazy update. My prediction is that given that no one who ships more than 1 packages can satisfy these requirements, and that the "AI" will make a ton of arbitrary calls, the whole thing will be rolled back in less than a week...

By dumping 300 cherries on the ground, 50 of which are just muddy rocks and another 50 are wormy, you're not advancing science. You're just depriving people of ways to authentify their hypotheses as reliable, AND of the joy of putting a pretty fruit on a cake. You're setting science back decades.

Lana Sinapayen @sinalana.eurosky.social · 18/10/2026
But in all science problems, understanding is the end product. It is what allows you to find new problems to solve. The solution to the problem is only the cherry on top, the vindication of your hypotheses, the demonstration that your understanding can be trusted.

If openAI wanted to continue to pretend to care about "the future of humanity" (does any of you suckers still buy that?) they would stick with engineering problems where only having a correct solution matters, understanding is secondary.

Well, more like one goal (money) with 2 pipeline: 1. Medium term: overwhelm scientists to convert them into paying clients with an inferiority complex. 2. Have the investors clap at something they don't understand but sounds great (omitting the 91% failure rate - 4000 trials, 100s of solves)

Lana Sinapayen @sinalana.eurosky.social · 18/10/2026
What OpenAI is doing isn't science, and it's barely engineering. The goal isn't knowledge (which comes from understanding), and it isn't even to solve problems, that's why they can release 700 files full of mistakes without reading them. The goal is twofold:

Moving does 2 things: it signals to @bsky.app that putting their LLMs in more places will lose them more users; it tells eurosky & co that their peak in new users is only because they haven't shoved 'AI' somewhere and shouldn't start.

Today, rural news, sadly = facebook. In most small towns, it is the only place where residents can find out about upcoming events, sell things etc. Facebook has a stranglehold on people in these places and is one of the reasons why they vote differently than people in urban areas.
