Mythical regulator. Bi-furious one-way time traveller. Repitching with Peter Dinklage in the lead. Mucks about with a puppet and blender.

Such a flip-flop paradox, the US pulling their bombers out from Fairford. Desperate to show that Iran is a credible threat, legitimising his and Netanyahu's needless war with them. But he also has to play the strong man. Hard to pull off when the credible threat seems to be vans and barrels.

Poorly sick right now, but still managed to get something achieved today.
A bound notebook, photographed close in, standing upright on a wooden table. The book is angled so we can see that on both its spine and front is printed, black on white stickers, 1st Oct '25 + 4th Oct '26. The spine has written on it also "BJ1". In gold lettering on the cover are the words "BULLET PLANNER".

Oh God. Are they asking for all this compute infrastructure because if they think we have too much supply it'll bring the costs down? Are they that stupid?

“Bongo” Ballpoint pen, pencil, watercolor, acrylic paint, and a little colored pencil.

Our man is in trouble this time, reader. Art supplies are scattered around a painting of an abstract cityscape. On the canvas we see a man in a telephone booth making a frantic call to his cat, Bongo. In the foreground, an answering machine is taking his voicemail, [Leave a message at the beep] --- “Bongo, Daddy got stuck in the painting. Go get help, Bongo.” Bongo stands at the base of the easel looking at the phone. Her tail in the air and ears perked up. Whether she’ll be able to help is open to interpretation.

Artist’s note: One of my favorites from the Spooky Pants book. I was playing around with the idea of a painting coming to life (like that guy in Ghostbusters 2) and kind of fumbled my way into this version. I really draw a lot of corded phones. I won’t stop.

Strong "lie detector" energy to this:
Guardian clipping that reads:

Sampson, who is now a non-executive director of Facewatch, a company that operates facial recognition systems in shops, added: "We know the technology works, but using it in supermarkets to deter shoplifters and prevent attacks on staff is very different from deploying it to catch people on a public transport network.

"Success in a shop means no such people coming in. Success for the police trying to catch people means people being caught. In that respect the trial doesn't appear to have been very fruitful.

Real trouble starts when facial recognition starts being used as evidence, using expert witnesses as a back door, and people are imprisoned solely on an algorithm IDing them in CCTV footage.

I do feel the police themselves have been reticent to say how many false positives these systems kick out, what cost, how much time taken up pursuing false positives, etc. I've never been comfortable with the Bayes numbers on accuracy.

Trial of live facial recognition in London stations ends with a false positive and no arrests
Freedom of information request finds six-month trial cost £320,000, used almost 100 police hours and led to just one – incorrect – alert A six-month trial of live facial recognition (LFR) technology in London’s railway stations that cost more than £320,000 and almost 100 hours of police officers’ time ended in one false match against a watchlist of suspects and no arrests. More than half a million faces were scanned between February and July this year in some of the capital’s busiest transport hubs during the British Transport Police (BTP) trial of the surveillance technology, which aimed to help catch offenders and people breaching court orders. And maths is an underpinning of stuff like set theory, logic, economics, and statistics, so an erosion of maths is an erosion of those too. We end up with flat-earthers, antivaxxers, "1 = 0", trickledown, bad policy, racism, etc. etc. No surprise as to who is pushing LLMs on the world...

This is the "but pocket calculators though" argument, and I hate it. I hate it because a) we all suck at maths now and bi) yes we have calculators but do we actually use them? bii) we've lost the *feel* for maths, which means we can be manipulated by numbers much more easily.

A lot of war memorials cover both World Wars but we're presumably initially just for the First World War. So the original text is like "we commemorate those that laid down their lives in the war to end all wars. Also we have left a space."
