RIP Sonny Rollins 😭 one of the best to ever do it. I saw him when he was in his 70s and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

Tony Stella was one of the great contemporary creators of illustrated film art, combining masterful skills as an artist with a deep-seated passion and knowledge of his subject, a rare combo. Very sorry to his family and friends for his untimely passing. Honored to have collaborated with him twice.

That’s so cool! It’s wild to see how much more popular and available the Shaw films are now compared to when I started. I love it.

Curse of Evil was on the ZiiEagle so it was remastered during the initial wave but no HK dvd. They seem to be doing a lot of new scans lately too, so I think it could be a possibility.

They also list two commentaries on the back, but only the Brian Bankston one is on the disc. Proofreading and quality control doesn’t seem to be their strong suit.

So upon actually looking at Shout’s blu-ray, it’s in Cantonese! Figures they wouldn’t get a detail like that correct. They seem to do things like that pretty often. Only difference from iTunes release is that it’s been adjusted from PAL so it’s running at the correct speed now.

I also tried to tell people to wait but couldn't share all the specifics (and it wasn’t just because I contributed essays). Arrow just did better work across the board with these releases, including with their restorations, subs from someone who actually speaks Cantonese, the artwork, etc.

UK/US: Left at the altar and lost after a drunken bender, Michael is nursed back to health by grieving widow Sue in ROMANCING IN THIN AIR. Although best known for action films, Johnnie To crafts a powerful meditation on grief and catharsis in this moving romantic melodrama.

Sad to hear Yuen Cheung-Yan has passed. Brother of Yuen Woo-Ping and part of the iconic Yuen family, he was everywhere in HK action cinema. He grew into a comic actor, director, and stunt coordinator whose work even carried him to Hollywood (Daredevil, Charlie’s Angels).
