In Sydney, a queer-owned creative arts space, Divine Playhouse, was evicted by their landl*rd after a coordinated campaign by Christian activists online. They're just so *performative*. This has been a frustrating reminder of why I left the Church. open.substack.com/pub/sidneyn...

This is a bit out of left field for me, but I kept seeing Reel after Reel condemning the "Wasian meetups" happing in NYC and SF, which expanded to condemning "Wasians" and was like … wtf?? So this is me trying to make sense of it all #culture #wasian open.substack.com/pub/sidneyn...

(It's `2ch` to maintain the monospace alignment with centred text!)
Screenshot of my /uses page, which contains monospaced text. The footer has centred monospaced text with line lengths of even numbers. A blue vertical line over the screenshot shows how the centred footer’s text aligns with the other monospaced text.

Just found out about the #CSS `round()` function while making my new /uses page at sidney.me/uses ! It really sells the monospace layout of the receipt design: it's always just the right width to fit an exact number of characters for the separator, using multiples of `2ch` units

It marked a great opportunity for me to give my writing a permanent home on my own domain, and have full control over how they’re presented There are so many small details I sweated over—I wrote about a bunch of them and the overarching details of the design here: sidney.me/writing/desi...

This year, I (finally) redesigned my #PersonalWebsite: sidney.me 🎉 It’s based on postcards: a design constraint that helped me make more thoughtful decisions about what I want to say, how to stay succinct, and how to do it graphically. They also focus attention and scale well to mobile #WebDev

I’d been using the Arc browser daily since it was invite-only, so The Browser Company confirming it’s effectively dead still stings. I really admired Arc for how much thought and craft went into it. So I wrote an obituary for my favourite browser: sidney.me/writing/arc-... #ArcBrowser

applying for jobs again
screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

I’ve said this before, but at a certain level of engineering your ability to write a doc is likely to have more impact than your ability to write code. Not because you won’t write code, but because your ability to convey an architecture, idea, or approach and get folks buy in is essential.

As of Chrome 131 you have more options to style `<details>` and `<summary>`. You can now use of the `display` property on these elements, and also use a `::details-content` pseudo-element to style the part that expands and collapses. developer.chrome.com/blog/styling...
