I just realized that the original X-Men all represented aspects of Xavier, and in fact eventually surpassed him in each of those aspects:
Cyclops became a better leader.
Jean became a stronger telepath.
Beast became a better scientist.
Angel became more wealthy.
Iceman came out of the closet.
