Part of OneCity’s frustration is that every day they’re putting out a multi-platform policy announcement like this while Pete Fry announces nothing and every day part of the conversation is “you’re at 5% in the polls, please consider dropping out”

Right now, AI regulation is the Wild West. Someone can walk into a community centre, a change room, or a public pool wearing a covert recording device that's quietly recording everything around them, and current rules don’t do enough. 1/2

Waiting for someone to actually *do something* about Big Tech? You should be able to trust that you're not being recorded at the gym, pool, or park. William Azaroff and OneCity have a plan for that. Learn more at www.onecityvancouver.ca/eyesoffvanco...
OneCity Vancouver policy announcement graphic. Headline reads "OneCity Policy Announcement: Improving Privacy and Safety in Public — With Eyes Off, a policy regulating AI recording devices in public spaces and buildings." A red "Learn More" button appears at right. Below, illustrations show a man and a woman wearing a hijab standing together in front of a house and apartment building, and a woman playing volleyball nearby.Slide titled "The Problem" with OneCity Vancouver logo at top right. Bullet points read: "Big Tech has rolled out glasses and other tools to record everything, everywhere, all the time. Workers on the job, children on the playground, and women and diverse persons just trying to live their lives are all being recorded." "Nobody consented to any of this." "The City currently has no regulation, but we have the power to change that." "Big Tech wants us to 'trust them', and most politicians want to wait and see, but William Azaroff and OneCity know that we can do something about this before it gets worse." Below, illustrations show a woman playing volleyball, a house, an apartment building, and a food vendor on a bicycle cart, framed by corner brackets like a camera viewfinder with a red "REC" recording indicator in the top right corner.Slide titled "We can do more" listing what the Eyes Off policy would establish: a definition of Wearable Recording Devices; standards for parks, pools & public spaces; a "Privacy-First Vancouver" certification for organizations committed to no covert recording; and a requirement for sensitive business classes (like medical and exercise facilities) to adopt similar standards. Text below reads: "Vancouverites should be able to work and play in our public spaces without being secretly recorded. William Azaroff & the OneCity team have a plan to make that happen." An illustration shows a man in a pink beanie holding a takeout coffee cup, a red "Learn More" button, and a QR code.

We've got a plan to make your tax bill cheaper, Vancouver. For the average home or apt, you're paying more tax on the water you use than a mega-mansion with a fountain and a giant watered lawn. We can fix that. Learn more about our plan to make water hogs pay at www.onecityvancouver.ca/waterhogs.

Districts across #bced are slashing budgets for the 2026/2027 school year in response to the province not providing increases to funding rates - not even matching inflation. For anyone in media keeping track, here are cuts that will likely be approved this week by VSB (Wed. PM):
At least 39 teachers
Five Vice Principals
Three Student Support Workers (SSB level)
Two District teaching staff positions
Two District learning staff positions
Teaching time equivalent to 2.5 positions for curriculum and assessment implementation in secondary schools
Two District Principals; and
1.5 ‘Other’Professional’ positions
