the twilight princess manga is so fascinating. it doesn't engage with the themes that were left on the table in the original game bc it makes so many changes to the events, which you'd think would make it bad. and yet it amplifies and explores many underutilized characters very well

the loss of yosuke's romantic social link leaves a hole in the end of his development, not bc it "had" to be gay necessarily to make sense but because yosuke's fear of kanji is directly related to his admiration (and attraction) to the protagonist

like i think they take the wrong message from people's disdain of yosuke; while i personally think the homophobia IS addressed by the text in a period-typical manner, i can also see the desire for greater pushback and more follow through on said pushback.
