A please @labouruk.bsky.social, stop saying that it's up to us to stop Reform. YOU could stop a Reform government in 2029, by introducing the proportional representation so many in the country have been clamouring for. The only way Farage can win is through our crazy first-past-the-post system.

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy. This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis. 44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.
Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..

It's #buyastrangerabook day, and @loreleiking.bsky.social is offering to buy somebody a copy of Nobody's Child Virginia Roberts Giuffre. "In memory of Virginia Giuffre, who suffered so much and who showed such courage" If you'd like it, get in touch. UK only.
Front cover of the book. Blurb from the book.

The extraordinarily powerful memoir by the late Virginia Roberts Giuffre, the inspirational woman who stood up and spoke out about serial abusers Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. This is the memoir behind the headlines: intimate, fierce, unforgettable. In 2011, Virginia Roberts Giuffre hit the headlines as Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s most outspoken victim: the woman whose decision to speak out helped send both serial abusers to prison and whose photograph with Prince Andrew catalysed his fall from grace.

But first and foremost, she became known as a voice of courage and resilience for women everywhere. This is her story, in her own words. A story that has never been told in full before now.

Giuffre’s story demonstrates with extraordinary power that victims are made, not born. And that once you come to truly understand the horrifying impact of abuse, you will never again question why a victim stays, or returns over and over again. In April 2025, Giuffre took her own life.

She left behind a memoir written in the years preceding her death and stated unequivocally that she wanted it published. This is the powerful story of an ordinary girl who would grow up to confront adversity and trauma of the darkest form, yet found the strength to move forwards, reclaim her voice and shine a light on evil – advocating for others and fighting for a safer, fairer world. Nobody’s Girl is a remarkable recounting of one woman’s fortitude in the face of depravity and despair, and the legacy she leaves behind.

I actually think that it's a safeguarding risk to encourage children to conceptualise AI as 'a tutor', as though it's real and a possible substitute for their teacher. We've already seen the serious harm AI can do when people use it to 'have conversations' and start to believe what it tells them.

Today, I will mostly be baking French apple cake. #StormAmy Had to pick fruit slightly before full ripeness: the wind took down one of the upright posts on the espalier frame. Thought we were going to lose three trees to being uprooted, so had to take the weight off.
A mixture of apples laid out on the counter tops. In the foreground is a browny-green russet variety. Others are a variety of shades of red and green.
