Reinstating pay equity is the right thing to do and is also the absolute bare minimum to restore the thing that should have been a given in a country that (allegedly) values equity. Saw some media framing as “but how will it be paid for” - I don’t know my dude, how on earth do we manage to pay men?

What’s with cars not stopping at pedestrian crossings lately? Yes it slows you down. But it’s also against the law (also dangerous and rude) to not stop.

I don't think I've ever seen a government experience this much Finding Out in its first term. It's not just bad decisions plus bad luck, but a very specific kind of decisions where they trade away costs that they could blame on Labour for risks that are squarely blamed on them.

This is a really terrible press release. Shades of DARVO. Lots of minimising and deflection with a side order of smoke and mirrors. Also, bolding half of a word doesn’t speak well of their attention to detail. managemyhealth.co.nz/mmh-cyber-br...

The MMH breach is a cluster. It looks like a very trivial issue (unsecured S3 bucket) which is cloud security 101. The company are handling it very badly with a lack of transparency and delaying in contacting users. I’ll be asking my GP practice to change providers.

I have a manage my health account. I have not heard from them yet about whether any of my information has been compromised. However when I just logged in I was interested to spot a new 2FA feature. 😒 Talk about the wrong priorities. I’ll ask my GP about changing systems.

Really want to encourage libraries - especially school libraries - to put no-AI content into your collection development policy. At the very least, if you have a clause in there about requiring accurate information, you can use that to weed out or prevent genAI purchases.

Have money, get a discount off your sentence for giving a mere pittance of it to charity. So, if you are rich in NZ you not only get name suppression, you can also buy yourself a reduced sentence even for extreme examples of child pornography. That’s not fair. So which very wealthy family is it?

Petty gripes with Wellington public transport. 1. Why can’t I connect my snapper card to my bank account for automatic top ups? This would also avoid credit card fees. 2. Installing mobile base stations/boosters in some of the tunnels would be very helpful for commutes.
