Cannot tell you how much I hate this & how ashamed & angry I am that @ukri.org have taken this step. We KNOW this sort of gAI is socially biased, we KNOW it favours slopAI output over human-written. Our research landscape is falling apart due to underfunding, & they do this? it's *appalling*

Agreed. But also this was a grant exclusively for outreach. It’s not even an activity within a research grant.

I genuinely hate this. Using AI for science communication tells me that no creativity, craft, or thought went into it. Might as well not bother.

EU Researcher Night in Ireland received almost €300k in EU funding (to run the one-day event in 2026 and again in 2027).
Clearly AI generated poster for the Minerals In Action event on EU Researcher night on Friday 25th September. The poster is filled with text, images, and the usual hallmarks of AI slop, and several science event cliches. This is the source of my discomfort, definitely. There was a lot of this research in my original field (developmental biology) too, and the authors rarely (never?) acknowledged the proximity of their work to eugenics.

I do too. It's holding up as a really elegant way to explain the process, but every time I see new studies on it, I think about how they could be weaponised.

The Problem
Flock's creative group is expanding as the company raises its standard of visual storytelling and campaign execution across brand, film, and digital experiences. This momentum creates a need for unified creative leadership to turn complex technology and public safety outcomes into compelling, human-centered narratives.

There's definitely a drop in quality. I think it's due, at least in part, to increased use of AI editing tools (which are terrible). This, combined with the pressure of algorithms that favour frequent publishing, is causing people to rush their work. It's really harming the medium.

A significant contributor to the gender pay gap and the continuing financial disparity between men and women is the undervaluing of all of the unpaid care work done by women in Ireland. Women all over Ireland get up early, every morning, and go to work, unpaid and unvalued.
