In each coloured ray from the rainbow (5 segments: red, yellow, green, blue and purple) there's a scene drawn inside of canonical events from Jayce and Viktor's timeline. What in the... he says. how do you even come up with this stuff? panel 2, jayce who is in the background half asleep on top of their work table mumbles an answer with his arm over his face. well. I'm a genius the process is self-evident. panel 3. viktor slams the journal shut, looking unimpressed. serious answer, please. panel 4, jayce does a loong stretch as his partner watches. panel 5 is identical to the previous, but now jayce is shiny and smiley and has sparkles all around. it came to me in a dream, he claims. panel 6, viktor makes a freaked out concerned face. you have to be joking. no, no, a little jayce face in the corner insists. i'm serious, it's real. end of page.

page 2. panel 1, a little viktor face speaking. right, let's suppose I believe this. what kind of dreams are we talking about? below him, a sketchy doodle of baby jayce wearing blue witch robes and a huge floppy witch hat is drawn. he's throwing his hands in the air and making rune magic happen, running across a field of yellow flowers. baby jayce's face is round with derpy glee. present-time jayce speaks in a corner. oh, i've had them ever since I was a little kid. I close my eyes... and if i'm in tune with myself, it's almost as if the arcane comes to me. panel 2, baby jayce lays down on the ground, propped up by his arms. he grins toothily at a sunflower, where a chunky white fairy sleeps. what do you think of my magic, flower buddy? he asks, his huge expectant eyes on the creature. panel 3: the fairy awakens, and all color drains from the picture, becoming fleshy pale. the flower wilts. the fairy has no face, and looks more like a larva shaped after mage viktor's disguise in the apocalypse. from the dark hooded chasm in its face, a blue rune glows. it chants dark words jayce cannot read. panel 4, back in the real world, jayce is smiling wide, covered in hearts. Behind him, viktor is scared shitless. his body is shaking with heebie jeebies. ...and that's how you come up with the mystery runes? he asks, in disbelief. and that's how i figured out some of those mystery runes, jayce replies, enamored with the process. pretty awesome, huh? end of page.

page 3. a single panel this time, drawn cutely for a gag. ohhh, jayce says. sometimes, when i put my ear to the runestone, i can hear really interesting things. do you want to try it, Viktor? jayce offers up the arm with his gemstone bracelet. in the background, viktor is emphatically shaking his head from side to side, spelling out no, no. I'm good, he claims. end of comic.

Page 17, panels 1, 2, 3. The impact of the explosion ricochets; pieces of stray wood and metal splinter in the air. Lucian braces himself, trying to cover his face with his arm. jayce cowers with his hands above his head and his knees pushed up, trying to make a ball with his body. Viktor’s body stiffens. A feeling like a lightning bolt zaps through his spine and breaks his concentration. Full body lock down. It’s as if somewhere, elsewhere, a little cog bounces on the floor. Panel 4; the aftermath of the destruction. The prison bars that haven’t been ripped from the cell are twisted beyond usefulness. White smoke fills the little pirate ship corridor, all that dust with nowhere to go. A humongous black hole has been punched into the opposite wall, breaking the structure of the ship and going into the next room over. From a corner, jayce peeks between his fingers, eyes comically large. Viktor braces himself on a wall, his back to the audience. He’s trembling. Lucian hurries up to the middle of the scene with his hands up, a sign of peace. Obviously alarmed, he declares; I come in peace! The room creaks some more, pieces falling from above. Panels 5, 6: darkness. Then, a light flickers from the depths. Panel 7: lucian’s hand uses a long flame stick to burn the tip of a candle. Forgive those bad manners of mine, he says. Panel 8; the candle burns alive. Lucian’s voice, explaining; I had to wait until she left. End of page.

Page 18. Panel 1. Viktor and Jayce sit on a fancy sofa right in front of a set of large blue windows. They are in the captain’s private room. Viktor has his arms crossed, a stern angry expression on his face. She, he spits, following lucian’s speech. You mean the hag. Jayce, who sits by his side, laughs nervously at this choice of words, a hand on his partner’s shoulder, playing peacekeeper. On the foreground, lucian sighs deeply, bowing his head and reaching out with a hand to hold his pirate hat. After a pause, he says: her name is nami, yes. She’s difficult. Panel 2; I can be difficult myself, when the weather calls for it. With his ghostly right hand, lucian makes his hat disappear into seamist. Panel 3; the captain sits on a high backed chair, crossing his legs. A firepit roars to life behind him. He says - so, on to second introductions. My name is lucian, and i am looking for my wife. We may have gotten off on the wrong boot, but… I would greatly appreciate your help. Panel 4. Lucian’s soft words hang in the air. Viktor looks like he wants to be hearing anything else. Visible frustration courses past his shoulders, mouth scrunched up in distaste. Jayce maintains a hand on his side, looking a bit more exhausted himself. End of page.
