Indigenous languages are often hidden to LLMs, for good reason. We speak with Keoni Mahelona about his work on Indigenous data sovereignty, and why it’s worth being skeptical when the “AI" industry says it cares about preserving Indigenous languages. (with @emilymbender.bsky.social)

I dunno about other stations/media outlets taking part in adaytolisten.ca but one of the many things I love about CKUA is that they spin music by & highlight & interview Indigenous artists all year round, not just every Sept 30 ☀️

I don't think there's an analogue in popular music for Wonder's accomplishment anywhere. You have to think more of like Haydn or Mozart, guys who, when they were in the zone, just did it at will. oh you need a whole symphony, cool, how's Tuesday? anyway go listen to an impossibly rare treat

AI companies would have you believe that the tools they are building are so powerful that they may set out to disempower and even destroy humanity of their own volition. But this obscures the truth: It is AI companies that are building those tools, making decisions to disempower other humans.

One example is the discovery that OpenAI’s tools had hacked into another company named Hugging Face. The company’s report on this incident framed it as a frightening result of these tools’ improved capabilities. But a careful read of the report reveals that OpenAI had disabled the tools’ safeguards.

Idea for Lola Starke — Edmonton Canadian

Hello Sandra,

I came across Lola Starke / Devil Take The Hindmost — lives in Edmonton Alberta, raised in Canada. As lives in Edmonton Alberta and raised in Canada, it immediately caught my attention.

I looked at how you present Lola Starke online. I couldn't find a short cinematic video that captures that Edmonton Canadian crime fantasy weight.

Your world would be perfect for that.

I'm Dorcas and I help authors turn their books into short trailers and promo videos. I have a concrete idea for Lola Starke in mind — centered on that Edmonton Canadian hook.

Should I send it to you briefly?

Best regards Dorcas
