Late afternoon, coming back from a long road run around local lanes--all intensely autumnal out there, with pumpkin harvesting and last haymaking going on, & roadsides littered with generous drifts of acorns and hickory nuts. Caught this #SkyPortrait as I was walking the final section. #AmRunning
View of sky mostly covered in light patchy cloud, brightly underlit, the blue of the sky darkening, and in silhouette below a line of trees with a house gable visible at lower left.

New semester schedule is intense (two weeks gone already?!), so it was bliss to get out to enjoy the Summit Run 5K this morning. Light rain throughout, but still 167 runners showed. V well organised race, as ever -- and winning an Atkins apple pie was icing on the cake! #AmRunning #Fall2026

Heading back across the pond just in time for the fall semester start; #grateful for a packed but successful trip. Yesterday, out for a last run along the Thames on a perfect early autumn afternoon; today, it's rather gloomy, but tbh everyone here's desperate for some rain. #AmRunning #Fall2026

Short run by the river here in Poznan to wrap up my stay. Lovely trail: lots of people out running, cycling, having cookouts, fishing, partying--& the weather was just perfect. Wish I could stay longer, but travel week coming up, ouf. (pic shows a quieter stretch of the riverside trail) #AmRunning
Quiet stretch of the Warta river as it runs through Poznan in Poland: view of a dirt trail (heading downstream) straight ahead towards an early evening sky (sun just about setting I think), with grassy verges and the river at right, and trees flanking on both sides. No other people in sight here.

Crossing the seas to Shetland, via the Orkneys. Accompanied overhead by a diving of gannets (5 of them, not actually diving, more like hitching a ride on the slipstream?) the good ship Hjaltland is pitching a bit, but it's pretty fair weather for the trip (so far! 10 hours to go!).
view from the dock (on which stands a winch of some kind) towards the side of a large ferry ship, with lettering "Hjaltland - Lerwick" at the stern, and on the white-painted hull and superstructure a giant painted image of a viking in horned helmet with beard and hair streaming in the wind.view astern from rear deck of the same ferry now out at sea. The ship's broad wake stretches off straight all the way to the horizon. The sky is well dotted with grey clouds.

Low tide along the Thames near Gravesend -- local ponies snacking on the only bit of green, me snacking on blackberries at the ruins of an old shore battery that was my turn-around point. Best place to run rn as there's always a breeze by the water. #AmRunning
View along river Thames shoreline, with rocky & muddy stretch exposed at low tide, and across the center of the pic a high gantry/pipeline on stilts goes out into the water. Heavy sky, all drab colors except for some green scrubby plants (and seaweed?) in lower left.Looking back up river towards Gravesend from further down river: dry grass trail, with river at right, and a small group of feral ponies munching on a section of bright green grass etc. next to the water where the drought hasn't dessicated everything. Very heavy sky, looks like thunder's coming.Close up of a small cluster of brambles (blackberries) -- some not yet ripe, a softer pale red, but several ready to eat, dark black-red. Green leaves out of focus in the background.
