As the founding executive director of HOURCAR, let me say that it is imperative someone steps forward to rescue car sharing AND bike sharing in the Twin Cities. HOURCAR, Evie and Nice Ride--all community-led nonprofits--were beautiful systems that allowed so many of us to live nearly car free.

They started texting with a 16-year-old. After two years, they offered to sell him a gun. They consider that "stopping a terrorist attack." And they are calling it heroic. What an absolute embarrassment.

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

Maybe that's a bad take, idk. It's also pretty funny to write an opinion piece saying it's okay to be a perv because she's a woman. This is what the states biggest newsroom is here for.

One thing I don't think people are talking about is that her excuse is almost worse than admitting what she did. She is saying "I played being pervy to fit in with the cops", which I think is worse than just saying "yeah I'm a little pervy."

Every time we hear "The homeless people didn't use the resources we offered," the next questions should be "What specific resources did you offer? Were they actually meant to be helpful to people you claim to want to help? Did you offer actual shelter? Did it accommodate couples? Pets? Wet or dry?"

If anything the mayor who should resign is St Paul's. Frey isn't good and I don't like him, but it's regular old bad at your job not good, not did something so bad he should be forced out. St Paul's mayor on the other hand, probably (w/o me knowing all the details) crossed the resign threshold.

Door knocked by the Anders Folk Campaign, always a positive sign for you as a candidate when your door knockers say "I don't agree with everything he does, or all his policies." Sure... but then why are you door knocking for him?

To what extent do you think high HOA fees account for this? From looking around at Minneapolis condos when I'm bored on zillow, it's pretty typical to find HOA fees at a condo that are almost as high as rent in a nearby building. Not universal, but probably part of it.

Real weird how people on here will hate on ICE and what they do, then turn around and say "I hate transplants" as if that doesn't come from the same philosophy.

MPD still can’t answer questions about where all the money went. And now, Frey is directing them not to testify before the Council. What are they covering up? What don’t they want the public to know?

I am *losing it at Vetaw's comment.
"I'm devastated," Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw, one of the city's most vocal advocates for maintaining the unit, said in an interview. "These horses can see and do things that regular officers can't. They were a unique tool that I was glad Minneapolis had."

Every time one of these stories comes out, it's shown that the parents were actually abusive. There is an asymmetry where the parents are given a platform by Christian nationalist orgs and Fox News while the state cannot discuss any details due to privacy. So the narrative is set by the parents.

It's just a different philosophy for downtown. Downtown as rich suburbanite playground and not downtown as a neighborhood. A bad philosophy for downtown, but one nonetheless.

So often these things are a trail of failed systems. While we can't be 100% sure better systems would have prevented a tragedy, we can be pretty confident in it.

I have not commented anywhere at all on this case so far, because I was/am really uninformed and didn't want to say anything with incomplete information. I will say, however, that this article is great and I really appreciate the broader coverage and perspective it provides.

Seth @sethbose9.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I mean, yeah that's kinda how it played out. Benefits of freeways concentrated in the suburbs, negatives concentrated in the cities.
110
Seth @sethbose9.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Of course this is true, just not as applied to Minneapolis. True for the suburbs, freeways increase commuting and trade access. But for Minneapolis, they decrease it through barrier effects, and the commuting gain is relatively small anyway. The report just misapplied the principle.
110
Seth @sethbose9.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Essentially, yes that was there argument. "As the use of the automobile has increase in recent years, motorists have sough out street after street in search of a fast route home" and "more efficient travel will enhance the general economic development through efficient operations."

This is from the report "Freeways... In Minneapolis" published in 1957. Boy were their predictions incorrect.
160
Seth @sethbose9.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
And: "Since Suburbanization is actually in process in Minneapolis at a time when no freeway system exists, it might be more proper to ask if there are not ways in which the projected system may help to avoid undue movement of people and enterprises out of the city into the suburbs."
