Most discussions about “misinformation” treat the problem as if people simply don’t have good enough critical-thinking skills. It sounds intuitive, but it’s not entirely accurate. The problem isn’t just individual ignorance, it’s the structure of the information environment people are placed into.

Are you building a community of circumstance without realising it? Communities of circumstance are for people who need a place to connect because life happened in ways they didn't choose. I developed that definition because I couldn't find a working definition anywhere. 1/3

Still seeing jobs in the charity sector that 'reserve the right to close applications early' That's likely to lead to indirect discrimination against people with chronic illnesses, parents, caregivers, and people with long commutes or long work hours. Give. People. Time. Make. Recruitment. Fair.

This is not misinformation. That's what I normally cover - something out of context, an opinion quoted as fact, or a deliberate misinterpretation... This is none of those. This is full-on disinformation. Because that is NOT from the Express. It is entirely fake😱 🧵 1/10
Lembit Opik tweet:

Burnham's big migration plan: take 4,000 stranded migrants from Ceuta, bring them to the UK and put them up in luxury hotels. Americans look at Europe in despair.

Express Headline: Burnham's migrant, Campbell, 1,000 stranded in Ceuta to be brought to UK. The Prime Minister proposes flying thousands of stranded migrants from Spanish enclave to Britain and housing them in London hotels.

Hearing some disappointing examples of distant and uncaring, toxic and unpleasant, or controlling and nitpicking management styles in the charity sector at the moment. It takes time and effort to manage in a constructive and situational way. But the alternatives will hurt you and your team.

Twice this week, the water butt has been refilled by the rain showers. So we're now playing the game of using the water ahead of the next shower to avoid damp. And watching to see if the grass is actually returning to it's usual soft green state. This is summer #ukweather that I'm used to!

If you only read one article about Jason Arday, let it be this one. And let's stop talking about Arday (aside from tributes, support and calls to correct the record) and start talking about Nathan Cofnas and the agenda that led to this horrible situation.

The age of centralised social media had us convinced that constant growth and the whole world in one big public square was the goal. In the end, that and monetization (and political weaponisation) led to the mess that Facebook and Twitter are now in. Bluesky needs to be viable, not massive.

This is a new era of midlife for me - becoming obsessed with the sweet mustard ketchup and pickle relish pots used in recent Gousto meals, then tracking down the supplier to order them direct. Tracklements have limited retail reach but a website to order direct. Success!

Yes my jacket is wet and the dog had to be towel dried after coming home early, but I'm happy. It's raining, and it's been raining for more than 15 minutes now. Willing it to be in Dulwich and wetting down the forest and coastal marrams. It's tinder dry here and that's dangerous.

63 grass fires in one day. That's the challenge London's firefighters faced yesterday. My thanks goes out to them for all their hard work. We all have a part to play in reducing that risk. Keep sparks, cigarettes and anything hot well away from dry grass. If you spot a fire, call 999.

It’s worth pausing on the scale of Burnham’s social care pitch. This could be the biggest reform to health in England in a generation. A universal care system - effectively a second NHS - would be revolutionary. Just free personal care would be lifechanging for older and disabled people.

Some things aren't meant to be 'hacked'. Not everything is supposed to be 'optimised'. You don't have to 10x everything you do. Plan. Listen. Design with safety and inclusion first. Build carefully. Scale with intention. Review and reflect. The walk is the walk. Take your time.

Sometimes small things aren't so small. This week I bought my first work laptop. I started freelancing in 2021 as a side project and used my personal laptop. It started going slow, losing charge. Then video meetings had issues. I've had two good years to build a reserve fund to buy one. So I did.

There was one benefit of not being able to sleep much last night - I put the laundry on at 7.15am, it was out at 8.30am and in before noon. Also the heatwave was a good opportunity to break in the air fryer and have fishfingers in pitta breads with salad for tea last night. #ukheatwave

This is why you shouldn't "just" use it for *anything*. I mean. There are other reasons. But those reasons -- the environment, the ethics, etc -- require people to give a damn about something outside themselves. I go to this one when I think a selfish reason might be more motivating.

Graphic with the text 'LABELS THAT MAKE OUR LIVES EASIER' on a white textured background. It features three European regulatory labels: an EU Energy Label showing a B rating, a blue CE marking, and the EU Ecolabel logo. Community manager recruitment tip: visit the community before your interview, find polite ways to talk about what you see and what you know about the rules, culture, and software product. Especially if you're asked ahead of time for ideas on how to develop it and why.

So I just used the following phrase without apology "I want to see #AI bots doing the worst and most tedious work, like screening CSAM, abuse, data processing and analysis. But nowhere near people without supervision. Treat it like a 3 year old or a randy labrador and put it on close watch."
