The ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion has passed at Green Party conference. While there are many parts of the motion I can agree with, there are some that I could not, so I did not vote for it. Here is a joint statement from the Green Party leadership team and all of us Green MPs:

Since becoming leader of the Green Party in 2025, Zack Polanski has made the links between climate change, inequality and the cost of living central to his politics, arguing that environmental action must also make people’s lives better.

This summer, as the UK faced its hottest summer ever and wildfires swept across the UK and the rest of the globe, he called for oil and gas companies to pay higher taxes to fund climate adaptation. That is alongside investment in cooling homes and public spaces and bringing water companies into public ownership.

I want to say a huge thank you to all my constituents for their understanding and compassion while I have been working on my recovery from burnout. Thank you especially to those who sent me supportive messages during my time away, sharing your own stories of burnout and recovery, and words of advice. I have been blown away by your kindness. 🫶

I recognise that I have been enormously fortunate to have been able to take this time, and that many people faced with the same situation would not be so lucky. No one should be penalised for being too unwell to work, and no one should have to jeopardise recovery because of job insecurity. This is something I am determined to change.

As anyone who’s ever had serious health issues can tell you, recovery isn’t linear, but I am making good progress, so I will be heading back to Parliament this week on a phased return.

I’m really looking forward to getting back into things and working alongside my amazing colleagues and inspiring constituents to make a positive impact together.
And so it was great timing that Zack visited Bristol again this weekend (appearing at Forwards Festival yesterday), and we were able to catch up over coffee this morning.

In a world where the UK government’s response to wildfires and droughts ravaging our communities is to temporarily ban disposable BBQs (whilst still considering expanding oil and gas production in the North Sea 🤯), the need for us Green politicians has never been clearer. There is much to do.

Onwards and upwards 💚
