Not really sure I'd trust anything this courier might bring me, to be honest....
On the side of a white van, a blue & black logo, comprising a blue circle, surrounded by white from which a blue stylised wing sticks out to the right. Surrounding the inner, blue, circle is a stylised black ring (or maybe a pot). In blue capital letters is the word "Pandora's" below which, in wider black capital keyters, is the wourd "Courier". Some distance below, in black sentence case lettering "Distance is just a word". Do these people not know their Greek mythology?

Retweet if you think Emanuel Ford's Ornatus and Artesia (1598) was better than Shakespeare What, wait, you never heard of it? That's interesting, because technically speaking, it was printed and distributed more widely than Shakespeare, who only became popular in printed form in the 18th C.

Another amusing example from Moore's work: "Like the ancient Greek Alexander Romance, also set in India, the [historical] popularity of Barlaam and Josaphat is in inverse proportion to its artistry."
"Like the ancient Greek Alexander Romance, also set in India, the popularity of Barlaam and Josaphat is in inverse proportion to its artistry. It's all fairly predictable, the characters flatter than a prayer mat, and written in complete ignorance of what India was actually like at that time. (The author confuses it with both Ethiopia and Arabia, and all of his examples of heathen gods are taken from Greek and Roman mythology.) All of the Christians are flawless heroes, all the Indians deluded sensualists. But none of this hindered its popularity: not only was it the literary sensation of 11th-century Constantinople, but in its Latin translation it swept through Europe and was adapted into nearly every European language, including Middle English. The Catholic Church, typically failing to distinguish between fact and fiction, canonized Barlaam and Josaphat, and they remain to this day on their calendar of saints (feast day 27 November). When Jesuit missionaries infested Japan in the 16th-century, a Japanese translation of Barlaam and Josaphat intended as a teaching tool was one of the first books published on the imported printing press (1591). But the Japanese Buddhists must have smiled when they read it, because it turns out the tale of Josaphat was based on the life of Gautarna Siddhartha, meaning the Church had canonized the founder of Buddhism. Oops." Stephen Moore, The Novel: An Alternative History: Beginnings to 1600 (2010)

Stephen Moore traces these dynamics all the way back to the 1st century Alexander Romance written in Greek, "another example of trashy commercial fiction, 'but eighty versions in twenty-four languages testify to a popularity and diffusion exceeded only by the Bible,' as one of its translators notes"
"It was at this time that the older Alexander Romance achieved its present form. Reading it on the heels of Daphnis is like following Ravel's ballet with a high-school marching band's rendition of the theme from Rocky. It's another example of trashy commercial fiction, "but eighty versions in twenty-four languages testify to a popularity and diffusion exceeded only by the Bible," as one of its translators notes (Reardon 650. Among its sources was a life of Alexander written shortly after his death, and the same translator admits: "It comes as a shock to realize how quickly historians fictionalized Alexander" (651), a process worth keeping in mind when we get to ancient Christian fiction. The Story of Apollonius King of Tyre, written by an anonymous author in Greek around the same time (3rd century) but surviving only in a Latin translation, is another crude novel in the vein of An Ephesian Tale and is noteworthy only for its frank treatment of incest and for its wide-reaching literary influence. (It was one of the sources for Shakespeare's Pericles.) Once again, artistic shortcomings didn't prevent readers from gobbling it tip: "an indication of the work's exceptional popularity can be found in the existence of over a hundred manuscripts of the Latin version of the story" (Reardon 737). In contrast, only one manuscript survives of the artistically superior Chaereas and Callirhoe." The Novel: An Alternative History: Beginnings to 1600 (2010)

I'm excited that my photo "Are You Kidding Me?" was selected as one of just 43 finalists in the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, from more than 10,000 entries representing 112 countries!
The story behind it is just as crazy. I was photographing this seven-week-old owlet when a squirrel suddenly launched from a nearby branch and landed directly on its head, knocking both of them out of the tree.
And believe it or not, a squirrel knocked this same owlet out of the tree THREE TIMES that morning! Fortunately, the owlet was fine and eventually settled down next to its mother.
