At Dalus Capital, we believe backing tech should create real impact alongside financial returns. My latest interview with Expansión breaks down our core focus on inclusion, business productivity, and climate in Latin America.

My Conversation with Expansión magazine on Venture Capital and Impact
I recently sat down with Expansión, one of Mexico’s leading business magazines, to share an update on what we are building at Dalus Capital. At Dalus Capital, my venture capital fund, we believe that funding tech should generate a positive impact for society and the planet in addition to financial returns. So, we focus on three themes that represent large opportunities in Latin America: Inclusion: Expanding access to finance, health, and education. Business Productivity: Backing digital tools, now very AI-focused, that make SMEs more competitive. Climate: Funding direct solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Watching Mexico vs Ecuador Live at the 2026 World Cup
Earlier this week, I had the chance to attend the Mexico vs. Ecuador World Cup match at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The atmosphere was incredible, with a full house of 80,824 people, most of them rooting for Mexico. It is pure, raw energy from some of the most faithful football fans in the world. Here is the Mexican national anthem I recorded at the beginning of the game. It is breathtaking to hear 80k people chanting it at full volume. You can really feel the power and energy of the crowd.

Venezuela needs international support after the devastating doublet earthquake. Local startup networks are mobilizing fast to deliver direct, capital-efficient aid where it is needed most. Read the full post to see how you can take direct action and support the recovery today.

How You Can Take Direct Action for Venezuela Today
The news coming out of Venezuela over the last few days is incredibly heavy. On June 24, a massive doublet earthquake (a 7.2 magnitude shock followed less than a minute later by a 7.5 mainshock) struck the country’s northern coast. It is the most powerful seismic event the region has felt in over a century. Right now, official reports count over 1,400 casualties and more than 3,200 injuries. But with more than 50,000 people still missing or trapped under rubble, the number of victims is expected to increase significantly. While Caracas felt the shockwaves and some buildings crumbled down, the coastal region of La Guaira took the brunt of the devastation.

Remembering Jane Goodall, a Titan of Conservation and Climate 🐒
The news landed last week, and it’s a profoundly sobering moment for anyone who cares about this planet: Dr. Jane Goodall has passed away at 91. She was the pioneering primatologist and probably the top biologist of her time. Her groundbreaking discoveries—that chimpanzees use tools, have distinct personalities, and complex social lives—didn't just change science; they forced humanity to look at itself in a new, humbler mirror. Incredibly enough, she first went to Tanzania in 1960 without a college degree. She was a young woman who dared to get up close and personal with animals most people thought were just "things." You can read her definitive obituary…

We have been actively investing in AI-native startups that are developing easy-to-deploy tools to solve specific business problems. These companies are building products on top of LLMs to work more efficiently. For example, our portfolio company Darwin AI, which recently announced a new funding round, develops AI agents—think of them as digital workers—hyper-focused on sales processes. Another investment, Qomplement, automates data entry from PDFs to Excel and ERPs, cutting up to 90% of manual work.

Why We Doubled Down on the Darwin AI Team
What makes this investment special for me is the team. Darwin is led by Lautaro Schiaffino and Ezequiel Sculli, fantastic entrepreneurs who I’m also happy to call good friends. This is our second time backing them. My fund led the Series A for their first startup, Sirena, where I had the privilege of serving on the board. They built an essential software layer for WhatsApp that solved a chaotic problem for businesses across Latam, leading to a successful acquisition by Zenvia. Now, with Darwin AI, they are leveraging that experience. This points to a powerful trend I’m seeing across the region: the rise of the serial entrepreneur. Founders on their second or third go-around have a distinct advantage—a proven playbook, deeper networks, and hard-won experience. This combination dramatically increases the probability of success, and it’s a clear signal that the Latin American startup ecosystem is maturing. Investing in Darwin AI isn’t just about backing a great idea; it’s about backing a proven team that knows how to build and win.

Latin America venture capital shows resilience in 2025 but challenges remain
LAVCA released its semi-annual metrics on the Latin American startup and VC ecosystem for the first half of 2025. There’s plenty to analyze, but I want to highlight three aspects. Latam VC investment volumes remain flatTotal investment value stayed essentially flat in the first half of 2025, with a slight downward bias. In fact, volumes have been holding steady at more or less the same level since 2H22, when the global correction in VC fully hit Latin America. The positive side is that this suggests we have reached the bottom of the cycle, and further material declines seem unlikely.
